Guest guest
I totally agree Gene. I began my career working with an almost total D.O. hospital staff (hosp. based EMS). I've spent my whole career defending D.O.'s and trying to explain the D.O./M.D. difference to people. The problem almost always seems to boil down to ignorance and mis-information regarding Osteopathic Medicine. Some of the finest physicians I know are D.O.s. They are Emergency physicians, Internists, Cardiologists, Surgeons, etc. On the other hand, there are excellent and poor physicians, nurses, paramedics, EMS personnel no matter where you go. A Family Practice D.O. friend of mine encouraged his son to go the M.D. route. Why? Because he was tired of the 20 or so years of crap he had to put up with. Sad, but true. Just remember the old question - "What do they call the person who graduates last in his Med. School class?" O.K. Ranting's over. Fingers are tired. I go now. Joe K. Overstreet, (B.S., L.P.) (Sorry, had to add it) EMS Supervisor San Marcos / Hays Co. EMS, Inc. [texasems-L] MDs, DOs, and so forth The questions has been posed with regard to emergency medicine: "What about DOs?" A No Brainer! MDs and DOs endure the exact same requirements for licensure. They take and pass the same examinations. DOs are no less nor no more competent than their MD compatriots. I'm sickened by the discrimination that exists against DOs by many hospitals and practice groups. There is no reason for it.
