Guest guest
Who owns the database when you use the cloud? How easy is it to get the data back if you switch back to your ownin house servers. Steve stown, NJ > > > , getting “lightning fast access†requires a server that’s lightning fast, an internet that’s “lightning fast†and more specifically a local ISP that’s “lightning fast.†Monitoring the internet at something like 10 minute intervals 24/7 for a couple of months during the work day is the only way I can imaging to determine true availability. Anyone know of a utility that runs in the background that can automatically log this information? > > > > > > > > I’m wondering what inconvenience many users of cloud based EMRs live with. Even slight delays can become annoying. No doubt some have the ideal internet support but something tells me this isn’t working out quite so nicely for many more. Anyone using a cloud based solution that now seems sluggish compared to the server based system they were previously using? > > > > > > > > Neighbors, MD > > > > Huntsville, Alabama > > > > > > > > Solo using FlexMedical EMR/Billing since 2/2009 > > > > Attested in 2011 > > > > > > > > From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of peterl@... > > Sent: Saturday, February 25, 2012 12:33 AM > > To: > > Subject: Re: remote hosting option > > > > > > > > > > > > The advantage is the cloud computer is out there on the backbone of the web, so it gets lightning fast access for you and sites it accesses. The disadvantage is that the cloud computer is out there on the backbone of the web, so it gets lightning fast access for hackers and folks who want to steal service, too. > > > > I had one that got hacked, cut short because Amazon limited the amount of activity vs what it had been normally. > > If I had had a 15 character password instead of 7, it would have been safe. There are routines that short circuit access for 24-48 hours if one IP makes (arbitrary #- usually 3-5) bad password sign on attempts, and other ways to protect. The biggest vulnerability is SHORT passwords, not 'weak' passwords. See https://www.xkcd.com/936/ > > > > All the computer maintenance stuff is done by someone else, which is great. Does it cost you less? Depends on how much you pay for services now. The maintenance stuff will all be world class, but so will the hacking attempts. > > > > Also depends on the 'last mile' problem- how good/fast is your office connection to the web? If that's slow, then everything will be slow. Even with a good connection, there's a latency (hesitation before there's a response) of 50-500 msec, which can be noticeable and bothersome. Traceroute and similar software can help you get more info about your connection. (Google it) Amazing that your connection to something 100 miles away bounces through two cities 1000+ miles away first. > > > > -- > > J.
