Guest guest
Hi, I think you have made an excellent choice. I used to live in Souther California and know some men who had the procedure. I have a chapter in my book on Proton Beam Therapy, written by Dr. Rossi of the Loma facility. You can also learn more about the Proton Beam therapy if you go to Google and search for Proton Beam Therapy. I wish you all the bestAubrey Pilgrim, DC (Ret.) Crawford is co-author of the revision After reading, listening, consulting, riding the emotional highs and lows, and dealing with the frustrations of insurance and yes doctors I have decide on the Proton Beam Therapy at Loma . It is interesting that this was my original inclination for treatment because it seemed to me to make sense and I live in Southern California so it is convenient but some local doctors were pointing me toward surgery (the so called gold standard)or seeds. I was drawn back to Proton by several patients that have undergone the treatment including doctors and scientists. My concern, of course was why are local doctors trying to talk me out of Proton Beam. One physician said the reason is two fold. First, they did not study or learn about proton beam in med school so they do not understand it. He said ask your doctor about Braggs Peak and many will think is is a mountain. They lump Proton Therapy together with traditional photon therapy. Secondly, it is economic. Yes, medicine is a business and there is competition for my dollar. At any rate, right or wrong, good or bad I am happy with my decision, it is right for me and I am not looking back. It is such a relief to make a decision that I am happy with and now that it is made I want to get started with treatment. I am scheduled for my first appointment on December 4 and will start treatment shortly thereafter. Thank you for the information, help and support. I will keep monitoring and let you know how treatment progresses and ongoing results.PennStateAge 57Gleason 3+3=6PSA 5.
