Here is my first response Susie......

Both, although many insurance companies will cover costs only for type 1

diabetics. The August, 1999 issue Diabetes Forecast cover story was about

insulin pumps and type 2

Another response.......

Both ones and twos can be pumpers! The pump can be beneficial to anyone

who uses insulin.

However, XXX.X is right that most insurance companies are reluctant to

cover pumps for Type 2's, probably because there are so many more of

them, and pumps and pump paraphernalia are expensive.

Another reason may be that Type 2's lack the drama of the threat of

immediate death (!) if their insulin supply is interrupted, so pumps

don't seem to be medically necessary.

And the threat of complications years down the line don't seem to

impress most insurance companies.

However, I DO know a few Type 2's who HAVE gotten pumps covered by

insurance -- it's not impossible!
