Hello Everyone, both Newbies and Oldies!!!

I know I haven't been around in ages. Well, guess what? I've not been around

anywhere on the Net in ages! Not until recently anyway. lol

I just thought I'd drop a line and see how everyone is doing and say hi!

So, how are you all doing? I hope as well as can be with no new stuff to

contend with. I pray all of your pain is ease with pain meds or any other way

there is to help you. And may you all have a blessed and better year than 2007.

It has to get better huh? I know it can always be worse, so maybe we just

have to focus on how good we have it instead of how bad things are as they

could be worse. LOL

Hugs to all!

Hi Rose,

Yes, they went pretty well. I'm sorry to hear you were in the hospital though :(

That stinks. Esp. at Christmas. I've only spent time in the hosp. once at

Christmas and that was the day my son was born. :) So I won't complain and

didn't then either. lol No one even brought me dinner :( Ah well so I missed out

on gaining a few lbs. lol

I learned in July that I have Pulmonary Hypertension, which is a rare lung

disease. I'm about to see a specialist that will start treatment on me. I first

have to go through a Right Heart Cath. Fun fun! NOT! lol

Anyway, I hope you are feeling better now and don't have to go back in any time

soon.

Take care,

Tommie

Tommie,

Welcome back!

Good luck with the cath - when are you going in for it? I hope they can get the

treatment for the pulmonary hypertension right on the first try for you.

Hi Rose,

I'm so very sorry to hear of your granddaughter :( That is so sad. Is she on

oxygen now? What kind of treatment did they offer her?

Back in July I had gone to the doc to get a cyst removed from my arm and I was

already on o2. While in his office, he noticed my breathing was bad and I didn't

look good so he checked my o2 sats with the pulse oxometer and they were in the

low 80's. They gave me a breathing treatment and still my sats were in the low

80's. He put me directly in the hospital. They dx'd PH by doing an Echo. They

also did a CT of the lungs and abdomen and some other tests. I was in there for

5 days. The cardio my doc sent in to see me told me of the PH and 3 treatments

that were available and how much they cost, then told me that we weren't going

to do any of that. So I thought this was no big deal. Finally in December I got

up the nerve to check things out on the computer and found the name of a med

that has the least side effects, but yet, still bad side effects, I then went to

my PCP and demanded treatment. He set me up with a really good Pulmonologist who

has never treated PH before. He did a chest xray, got my records from the hosp.

did some lab work and confirmed the dx. Said he was going to find a Cardio to

perform a Right Heart Cath and he'd get back to me. He did better than this and

found a Cardio/Pulmo. doc who treats PH, 1 of only 2 docs in my State who treats

this. PH, Heart and Lung transplants are his specialty. I'm very pleased with

what this Pulmo doc did for me. So now I wait for an appt with the new

Specialist. I called his office yesterday as I know records were sent to him

last Friday. I was told that the doc is reviewing my records and determining

which tests he wants to do, they will be calling me early next week to set up a

date for me to come do it all the same day. Then we'll head for treatment. And

this doc will also be the one who will do the Right Heart Cath. So it's just a

matter of time and I'll be on treatment. The treatment is very expensive, but

will only cost me 5.60 for the 1st month. Then it will be covered 100% on my

insurance. It's full cost is $4100 a month, for 30 pills. Isn't that crazy? It

has to be ordered from the manufacturer, pharmacies don't carry it because of

the cost.

Anyway, so that was so long. Probably more than you wanted to know. lol I'm long

winded, what can I say? lol

Hugs,

Tommie

Hi Chelle,

Thanks for the good luck wish. I hear the RHC is much easier than the LHC and

I've had that done twice.

I don't have a date yet for the heart cath as I haven't seen my new doc yet.

They will be calling me the first of next week to set up an appt. Then we go

from there. I'm sure this will be long and drawn out but I hope not too drawn

out. I want treatment now! But I know he will have to do other tests first to

determine what treatment is best for me. Everyone is different.

How are you doing?

Hugs,

Tommie

Hi Chelle,

The med is treatment for PH and it's called Letairis. All of the PH treatment

meds cost this much per month. Thank God, I only have to pay 5.60 once per yr

for it.
