When The Work doesn't work?

As many of us know, The Work doesn't work when you have a motive - go

in for the love of truth, says. Does anybody have other examples

of when The Work doesn't (seem to) work. For me, for example, I would

say that it doesn't work when I am out of touch with myself - when I

am in running away from feelings mode. I am so inauthentic at these

times, that The Work doesn't seem to penetrate. But, of course, I

cannot absolutely know that.
