---Athena charges a % of payments. I have been paying a biller 8% so now I'll pay ~6%. I was hoping to get rid of billing altogether but it's more than I really want to do.They manage all payments and EOBS(uploaded, access anytime). Bill is created at each visit and then submitted then. I've been doing electronic submissions for 10 yrs.Athena has a pt portal, reminder calls, insurance checks, and all the reports you could want. Also, they guarantee MU or they pay you. They have data on all P4P programs, including PCMH, and point out which you qualify for. They are suppose to be a leader in PCMH certification as well.As I said, I haven't started training yet but a doc nearby just finished and went live 2 wks ago--said it's great. As does another office.Cost to you will depend on the volume of your practice. $10/hr for billing is pretty cheap. But when you add all you get up, Athena may be a better deal for you too.Ellen CareCloud EHR

Ellen,Thanks for the info....but doubt I can get dr Steve to switch EMR at this point.  We have been using e-MDs for 7+ years.  I do all of the billing, so that is no cost to us other than the clearinghouse and what we already pay to e-MDs for the software.  We also have a portal, I have part time staff that looks for things to do between patients, so reminder calls is their job, eligibility checks for us here were costing more time than it was saving, so we quit doing them about 5years ago.  No interest right now in pcmh.  We have been getting p4p dollars the entire time we have been in practice, practically.  Certified for MU last year, and on track to certify again this year.

But, it is good to keep these things in your back pocket.  We are in the process of moving our office, so that in and of itself is enough change for us for a while! Pratt
