Guest guest
Hello. My husband had LRP (Laprascopic Radical Prostatectomy)on 9/13. We went to Dr. Krongrad, in Miami. Stayed for 9 days after surgery, and then flew back home to Indiana. We're now waiting to go in for another PSA on Nov. 13. He's 52 years old, and went to the doctor for a routine physical. Having never had his prostate checked, he asked the doctor to check him. His PSA was 23.6 and he was told to see a Urologist. Then a biopsy that showed cancer in every 12 sections - with a gleason score of 4+3=7. After surgery, the pathology report read that the Gleason score was 5+3 =8. It also said pT3a No - margins Can someone explain what the "pT3a No " means? His catheter was removed on 9/25. He's still having problems with leakage which discourages him. Guest guest
Shirley, I was just browsing some of the other messages on here and visited a site that Terry shared about staging levels: (the T3a reference)http://www.phoenix5.org/staging.html It is very descriptive and has a link to go to for diagrams, as well. I believe the "No margins" comment means that the margins were clear of cancer. Someone here will correct me if that's wrong. My husband's pathology came back as T2a, although it was T1c before surgery and the difference seems to be how it was detected.... so that seems weird to me. Unless the size of the tumor at the time of surgery had increased to the point that it should have been detectable by dre method? 's catheter was just removed yesterday and the leaking is something he is hoping will correct itself quickly, as well. Other than Kegels, I'm not sure what else can help that progress. Is your husband's doctor having him start on Viagra or a similar medication to improve blood flow to the nerves? That is something we are wanting to know more about from others who have been through this. Our doctor has not generally addressed that aspect of recovery, but did provide some viagra for that purpose in these early weeks. Guest guest
Hi Shirley, I would say he is very lucky. Granted his gleason is high, mine is 9, see my email signature, but it must be localized or they wouldn't had recommended the surgery. My PSA was lower but it had already spread to my bladder & my lungs. The only hope I have is to stop it's growth but your husbands surgery might have gotten it all. You just have to watch it. When they did my biopsy of my prostate, they removed the cancer from my bladder & I, too, had a catheter installed when I woke up. That was the worse part. I felt like a BORG from Star Trek. I lasted for 4 days then & cut the catheter & removed it myself. I will be praying for him but just remember, it could be a lot worse. God Bless --- I am 58 years old, diagnosed PCa 8-9-06 Gleason 9. hasn't gone into the bone, has spread to my lungs & bladder. Taking Casodex pills & Zoledex shots. I am convinced that my GOD and Lord Jesus Christ will heal me as a testimony to his love. 2 Chronicles 20 > > Hello. > My husband had LRP (Laprascopic Radical Prostatectomy)on 9/13.
