It can definitely get worse if left untreated, and often does.

Neither answer sounds right to me. The degree of herniation can change, but

it's not likely to lengthen in any significant pattern. Actually, if there

is a pattern, it's that the herniation generally decreases with age.

Nothing monumental, but if you live for a couple of hundred years, it may

go away altogether :-)

Keep in mind that all this is mostly trivial. The degree of herniation is

*not* indicative of the degree of symptoms.

Hmmmmmmm. How do doctors define " degenerative? " Rick is getting

progressively worse.........so his he degenerating (?) or are his

symptoms progressing?

It's all a bunch of gobble-dy-gook to me. I will tell you what I KNOW.

Chiari can get continually worse with or without surgery. They tell

you to be careful, don't fall, watch out for accidents, etc. Yet your

knees go weak and drop you to the floor for no reason. From what I've

seen with Rick the falls aren't causing his chiari to get

worse.......the chiari is causing him to fall.

I try to give all doctors the benefit of the doubt. After all, there

really isin't alot known about Chiari and it's long-term affects. And

I see many that are really striving for breakthroughs. HOWEVER, it

really ticks me off when a doctor states so matter-of-factly that

Chiari doesn't cause these symptoms, chiari doesn't do this, chiari

doesn't affect that. THEY DON'T KNOW. Why can't they just say so?

:-) Yep, blew off a little stem there. All better now.
