Aarrrgghhh ... Barb Young and I had a private exchange, and I meant for it

to go to the list. I said:

<< That was an interesting site, Barb! I of course looked up " diabetes " and

it is mentioned, but it doesn't seem to be a major problem in horses, other

than its association with Cushing's syndrome in (usually) older horses. And

that makes sense to me, because horses live on grass and hay. (Our

equivalent of salads and other greens.) On the other hand, when I research

web sites dealing with cattle, I find that it's not at all uncommon for

cattle who are switched from grass and hay to a high-grain feedlot diet to

succumb to what we would call diabetes. Thanks for the link, Barb! >>

If any of you haven't visited Barb's web site, please do so ... They have

some wonderful horse pictures there. Barb is quite the photographer!)

Barb lives in the Four Corners area of southwestern Colorado. Here is the

Aw, gee, thanks, Susie. There are more photos at

www.RainbowFarm.com/mannhattan.html I just haven'et made a link to that

page yet. They are now thinking some of the the supposedly hypothyroid

ponies (ponies tend to be overweight) might be hyperglycemic instead. I

think I posted some of that article awhile back. I know a lady trying to

develop a feed supplement with chromium and insulin for these guys - it

occurs mostly in ponies and draft type horses, who gain weight easily.
