Guest guest
Detrol usually helps if you have the spastic sort of neurogenic bladder. If you have the flaccid sort (neurogenic bladder just means the nerves to the bladder do not work correctly. ), detrol will not do a thing. I'm in that second category. By stopping the pressure of the spasms, less (or no) urine is forced past the sphincters that keep the urine from flowing backwards to the kidneys. So, it's not likely that the reflux would get worse because of detrol. V > > Can anyone with a neurogenic bladder tell me if using Detrol helped or if it made the condition worse.? I've heard it helps with bladder spasms, but my concern is?not being able to feel the " urge " and having urine backup even more.??Any info?would be greatly appreciated. > > Thanks! > > Kasha > ?? > ________________________________________________________________________ > More new features than ever. Guest guest
Kasha, I've tried every med on the market for bladder spasms (including Detrol). Its just a matter of trial and error until you find the med that works best for you (Ditropan, Ditropan XL, Detrol, Enablex or Vesicare). Ditropan (the generic is oxybutynin) is the oldest on the list. Ditropan XL is the one I have had the most success with. Although I am giving plain Ditropan another try for purely financial reasons. My MD didn't have me on a truly equivalent dose the last time I tried it, which is why it may not have worked as well as the XL. So, I'll give it a try for a month and hope it works. It is much cheaper and with the WalMart $4, it can help keep me out of the donut hole (every little bit helps). I have devised this wholly complex plan to work the system when it comes to my Rx's -- paying cash for some now and then billing them through the insurance later and sending the receipts for the ones I paid cash for into the insurance co after I enter the donut hole so I can get credit for them as $ I hvae paid out. Does my plan sound diabolical enouugh? mu-ha-ha-ha - LOL Well, my Rx plan did not have a donut hole last year and this year no such plan exists, so I have to do what I have to do. If they want an apple to make you enter the hole and an orange to get you out, then I'll play their silly reindeer games. Back to your question, you don't have to worry about the Detrol causing more problems. The detrol should decrease the spasms and pressures in your bladder which can cause reflux. > Can anyone with a neurogenic bladder tell me if using Detrol helped or > if it made the condition worse.? Guest guest
When I took it it shut my bladder off and I never went to the bathroom and never felt like I had to even go. It was good if I was going to the zoo with my kids or to a concert but other than that I never take it anymore. kasha545@... wrote: Can anyone with a neurogenic bladder tell me if using Detrol helped or if it made the condition worse.? Guest guest
Hello, had a problem when she took Detrol. It would make her retain more urine, and cause an infection. She is now on Enablex, for spasms, and has not had a problem. Tommi --- wrote: > When I took it it shut my bladder off and I never > went to the bathroom and never felt like I had to > even go.
