I also appreciate this post. Thank you. It's definitely a continuum,

and even if our parents don't fit into any one category, we still have

a lot in common having grown up in dysfunctional households.

I'm gonna give a quote from

http://www.mentalhealth.com/dis1/PD%20In%20Dogs%20And%20Humans.htm

Research has shown that many of the maladaptive personality traits

occur together. Psychiatrists have identified 10 different ways these

maldaptive personality traits commonly occur together. These 10

different maladaptive patterns are called personality disorders when

these maladaptive personality traits persist into adulthood and become

very distressing or disabling.

Many of these personality disorders are seldom seen in isolation; they

usually are seen in association with other personality disorders of

the same family or " cluster " . Personality disorders thus can be

classified into three " clusters " (Table 1):

1. Cluster A:

1. Paranoid Personality Disorder

2. Schizoid Personality Disorder

3. Schizotypal Personality Disorder

2. Cluster B:

1. Histrionic Personality Disorder

2. Emotionally Unstable (Borderline) Personality Disorder

3. Narcissistic Personality Disorder

4. Antisocial Personality Disorder

3. Cluster C:

1. Anxious (Avoidant) Personality Disorder

2. Dependent Personality Disorder

3. Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder
