One of the men who has told of his

experiences post surgery on the http://www.yananow.net

site is Glen . He has some advice on how best to handle a bag, which you

can find at http://www.yananow.net/Mentors/GlenL.htm#II

It may help – sorry I can’t give any personally based info, but I didn’t

follow that route.

All the best

Umm, I am not sure if

this thread decreases depression by letting us laugh at some of the weirdness

we believe, or deepens it by mirroring humankind's range of foolishness.

Now I am back on a

catheter with eight more days to go and that IS depressing. I have yet to

find any good way to hold up a leg bag. As it fills, it drops. As

it drops, it pulls. As it pulls, it hurts. Not the world's best

signal to empty the bag. There's got to be a better way!!!

And dare I mention the

effect on my love life? I will leave the details to your imaginations.

On the up side I have

discovered a number of things I am allergic to, like latex and the

adhesive on surgical tape. Ouch! Plus I can drink all the coffee I

want without worrying about being in close proximity to a washroom. And

no bladder calls disturb my sleep at night.

Somehow the pluses

don't add up to the minus. Suggestions welcome.

Peace,

K'sitew

I had to have a catheter for a while after brachytherapy. I found the bag a

real nuisance and after a while the gave me a " flip-flo " catheter. This had a

little tap on it so I could use my bladder as the bag and just turn the tap on

when I needed to have a pee. It worked very well for me except when I forgot

to turn the tap off again and had to make a speedy exit to adjust my dress.

The external tube was short and the tube and tap fitted in my underpants so

there was no drag. I later moved on to self catheterising twice a day which

was not quite so easy but was a stepping stone to discarding the catheter

altogether. At least it meant that I could go running again. After several

years it transpires that my bladder isn't emptying fully so I have been back on

the self-catheterising regime again for the last four months.
