Janie,

I took and completed the course through PCDI and my feelings about it are

mixed. Although I enjoyed the course very much, I don't think it was as

thorough as it should have been or maybe as other MT courses are. I am

currently doing MT work but I find that the *real world* of transcription is

a lot different from the PCDI course. One thing PCDI really stresses is the

ability to work from home when you do finish your course and I found out how

misleading that is. If I did it all over again, I know I would look around

so much more than I did. In my opinion, the real *schooling* starts with

your first MT job. I have learned *volumes* in the past 7 months I have been

doing transcription; much, much more than I did while taking the course. If

I were you, I would definitely investigate all of your options because no

matter where you choose to do take your training, it is a big investment,

money-wise and education-wise. Just my opinion.

The best of luck in your venture.

Hello Nita,

I took the course offered on medical transcription from PCDI. Still making

payments on it too. I tested for several national companies and always fell

just short of their reguired test score for hiring. I still feel that it just

wasn't enough. My test scores came close, but it seems that I had to spend

twice as much time researching words I didn't know. I'm still hoping to get

into this field, but for me another course is needed. Perhaps s this

time. I hear it is very comprehensive. Good luck Nita.

Hi again Nita,

I am not presently in the medical field. I still keep abreast of things with

NMTC, sci.med.transcription, and several newsletters. I still very much want to

pursue this. I also feel that the area I live in is prime for a small

transcription business. Perhaps after summer vacation is over I will continue

my education and see where I can go from there. Fortunately, my husband has a

good income and my job allows me free afternoons when I need them. So, my

situation allows me the comfort of being able to continue studies.

Janie,

I would think that you would be ready for perhaps, the Advanced

Transcription Course. I know where I took my course at the community

college here, the Advanced course was sep. from the Beg/Int. course.

Perhaps that's all you need. A course to help you fine tune your skills.

Good Luck to you.

Thanks to all of you who offered advice. I'm glad to know that there are so

many others who also took this course, and many who are working after it. I

will check into the nearest community college and also some adv. courses.

Thanks again all.
