Just an addendum to my last post. The National Center on Physical Activity

and Disability is a great resource for finding adapted ways to do all kinds

of activities. If I remember correctly, they even have a way to search by

zip code on many things to find adapted activities in your area. You can

visit their site at- www.ncpad.org

They have a monthly newletter (for those interested) and each month have all

different kinds of ideas for adapted sports and basically anything

physical. They also have links where you can buy videos (in the event there

isn't anything organized close to you, or organized stuff isn't your bag) of

adapted Yoga, adapted Tai Chi, dancing, and just about any sport you can

imagine. Recently they profile a way to build an adapted gym for about $100

(or maybe less) in your own home. It was really neat and an inexpensive way

to exercise in your own home (in the event there aren't any accessible gyms

in your area or you just prefer to exercise in the privacy of your own

home). If anyone is interested in seeing pics of the adapted gym (uses hand

weights, and therabands, etc that can be designed to mount in a small area

on the wall or even over the back of a door), email me and I'll send you

pics of it (I contacted the guy who was profiled in the article and he sent

me pics of his gym set up).
