I have felt that anesthesia was the culprit of bringing LBD on for Jim. After

back surgery, our nightmares began 1 year later.

Anesthesia, Alzheimer's and Low Oxygen

Anesthesia, Alzheimer's and Low Oxygen

(Source: Medical News Today) - A commonly used anaesthesia may be

responsible for increased production of Alzheimer's plaques,

contributing to the disease and other brain disorders.

A team of international researchers simulated surgery by subjecting

human brain cells to a solution of 12% desflurane. There were no

significant outcomes, however when oxygen levels were lowered, there

was an increase in production of amyloid-beta protein and brain cell

death rate, similar to what occurs with Alzheimer's disease.

The results with desflurane are contrary to the researchers' previous

hypotheses which report that the drug itself could stimulate amyloid

production and cell death.

Oh my goodness, you mean now they are just finding this out? I know the

surgeries Don had, with being under anesthetic for two open heart surgeries,

and

low oxygen, accounts for his problem.

After the last open heart surgery in '94 he could no longer work with

figures. He lost his job because of it. Well, he told them he couldn't do it,

when

they talked.

I know that is when LBD began. That was a long time ago, but most people

don't have a handle on when their LO actually became sick. I do, because it was

not only work but our checkbook that he messed up royal. He also became

highly agitated, and fussing, just plain down right difficult to live with. I

thought it was from not working and missing that. I told him to go to the doctor

and tell him or I was leaving. Yep, that is how bad it was. And, we are a very

devoted and loving couple. I had to say something to get him to a doctor. He

was given Zoloft and it helped.

He had two more surgeries on an AVF and when he woke up he was as loony as a

fruit cake. We had to stay with him all the time. The next two surgeries

they did a spinal, and he was alright. The fifth surgery he had to be put to

sleep, because they had to do a bypass around a big infected place. After that

he was very loony. An RN was with him day and night. So was I.

I am glad to read this, . Thank you for all your research, and

informing us.

Love a lot,

Imogene
