Guest guest
, I have had to invoke them at school, but never in a workplace. You may want to contact your local DOL and vocational rehab. They will work with your employer to make sure they are accommodating your needs. Sorry to ask this here, and if anyone feels uncomfortable answering in public, I don't mind if you email me privately, but I was wondering if anyone has had to invoke their rights under the Americans with Disabilities Act? Very long story short, got a boss who doesn't like some of my limitations that are a known part of my medical conditions. He's being kind of jerky and I'm preparing to get really jerky right back. Guest guest
Thanks, Jenn. I went and looked the law up again, and then looked up what " reasonable accommodation " means, and I think I'm pretty safe. I have to make sure the paperwork is in place and that my doctor is in agreement before I go to our HR rep. I don't think I'm going to have much of an issue getting what I need. Like I said, my boss is being a jerk about things my last job just accepted and understood, and I think the difference is that he hasn't been properly informed. My last bosses, they knew I have a disability and accepted it. My current boss has been told, but seems to think because I accepted the job, I accepted that I wouldn't get any accommodation, which a serious misperception on his part. What I need doesn't affect my ability to do my job at all. It just means I can't do it the way he thinks it should be done, and we all know that there is always more than one way to do something well. I like the idea of contacting DOL. I may have to do that. I don't know our HR rep at all. I have to talk to her to find out whose side she's on. Like I said, my last job, HR fell firmly on the side of the staff. Not all of the HR reps at PSU are like that. --- JBobin wrote: > , > > > > I have had to invoke them at school, but never in a > workplace.
