Guest guest
The presentation on Orthotic Management of Patients with CMT by McKale at the West Coast CMT Conference was a real eye opener. His experience with foot alignment makes too much sense to be ignored. I experimented with my right foot AFO by placing 1/16 inch pieces of contact (peel and stick) hard foam from a hobby shop source under the front foot pressure point. My AFO is for foot drop and lateral stability that inserts into a shoe and has springs. My problem is the right ankle rubs against the right brace. Moving the right brace to the outside of the mounting position on the poly platform only helped slightly when done by my orthotist and a strap did not help. So far raising the orthotic platform at the front of the right foot front pressure points to 3/16 of an inch moved the foot straighter and the ankle does not rub on the brace. I will try increasing the foam thickness to 1/4 inch to see if it helps more since the foot works and feels better. Now if I can convince my orthotist to work on this solution for a more permanent fix using better materials. I know that finding the right shoe with good width, toe space and stability is real important to good results. Anyone have any comment on this? Guest guest
, One thing about the use of foam - it compresses over time and needs to be replaced. As for shoes, look into New Balance. http://www.nbwebexpress.com http://www.newbalance.com/ There are also New Balance outlet stores in different cities.
