Guest guest
Hello everyone. After much deliberation, I decided to have the BKA to resolve the orthopedic problems in my Left foot/ankle due to CMT. The procedure took place February 18. I spent 2 nights in the hospital. I am now 6 days post surgical. My wife and I both agree that this recovery has been quicker than the previous surgery (ankle fusion last September). My staples come out March 4. I have NO PAIN and am off the Vicodin. I still feel the staples when I move the wrong way, though. My mobility is improving. My center of gravity changed a little so the first day or two home was a little rough. My speed in crutches is what it was before the surgery when i was in a cast (and couldn't put my left foot down.) I will be back at work two weeks from now. I know I will have to battle with the prosthesis, but the fact remains, I am now in less pain than BEFORE the surgery, and that is huge.
