Excessive sleepiness vs fatigue

Thanks, Gretchen, for posting the information on fatigue.  I was having

difficulty trying to explain that CMT-induced muscle fatigue is not the same

thing as being sleepy.

If anyone is experiencing daytime sleepiness, it might be worth ruling out sleep

apnea as a cause.  Sleep apnea can lead to high blood pressure, high

cholesterol, heart disease, stroke, obesity, memory problems, etc.  Estimates

are that 90% of the people who have it, don't know it.  Risk factors are listed

in the attached link.  CMT'ers with pharyngeal weakness are at greater risk of

having apnea than the average person.

There is a survey you can take to see if you might be experiencing apnea.  It's

called the Epworth Sleepiness Scale.  It doesn't provide a diagnosis, but rather

a quick way to screen for issues:

As others have mentioned, there are other causes of daytime sleepiness, such as

use of medications or three year olds in the bed at night, but apnea can be

serious, so it's good to rule it out as a cause.

You always put a smile on my face. Wonder who the 3 year old comment was for

LOL. BTW I have an appointment with the DR about it. I never thought of it

being anything else other then CMT. She will too. Anyway, I have high blood

pressure and cholesterol as well, so I was curious to see that on the list for

Apnea. I just has my first healthy juicer drink that is suppose to help high

blood pressure. It actually tasted good too. I love fennel. Apparently the

celery has a compound that helps blood pressure. Apparently I don't need to put

the parsley in the juicer though. Had parsley flying everywhere. It was funny.

Duke, a USDA phytochemist. These foods are thought to combat high blood

pressure.

b.. 2 cloves garlic

c.. 1 carrot

d.. Dash of fennel

e.. Dash of parsley

Combine the ingredients and liquefy in a juicer.

Drink once a day.

So happy to hear you're checking with the doc on this.  After all, look at all

the controversy this created? There are hot buttons being pushed all over the

place, including my own...at least three times!  :)

I don't want to wish apnea on you, but it certainly creates hope when there

might be some part of a health problem that might actually have a solution!  I

was talking to my hubby about his apnea and he reminded me that one of the

primary symptoms is having no dreams.  It wasn't that he was dreaming, but then

not remembering them.  He just wasn't dreaming at all because the apnea was

preventing REM sleep.  Now he dreams every night.

Thanks for the recipe!  And the link.  I had no idea that celery had so

much nutrition packed into it.  I always remember hearing that it's 'just water'

with very little nutritional value.  We'll need to get celery on the grocery

list!  And if we try that juicer recipe, I'll remember the parsley tip.  :)

Thanks for sharing!

One of the reasons I love this place. No dreams eh, sounds like someone I know,

oh yeah me. I actually had one the other night. I woke up told my wife and she

said you have not had a dream in a long time. I said yes, you are right, I

hardly have them any more. hmmmmm, makes me wonder more and more after each

post. Can't wait to see what the Dr has to say.

Controversy, I know. Who thought little old me would have started this up. Well

it been a good learning experience for me and I hope others as well.

I threw the celery and drink in since I was activly working on it when I posted.

I know is way to early to tell but I actually had a 130/77v today which is low

for me. I am normally 140-150/85-90 so the 130/77 is great I was so excited.

Thanks again,
