Guest guest
A member on ReUseIt Cafe posted about this group, so now I'm here looking for information. I have mold in my basement that is making me sick with cold like/allergy like symptoms. We put in a dehumidifier, that only helped a little. Then we cut a hole into the ventilation duct work to get fresh air (not sure if fresh, due to the furnace being in the basement) into the basement. However it did seem to help a tad bit more. What I found out that was adding to the problem big time is one of my boys is having pee-pee accidents and hiding the stuff in the basement. What has me concerned is that I can't use bleach or ammonia to kill mold due to me being allergic (problems breathing) and I know that bleach and pee would create some kind of poison as well. My son did this so badly that I had to remove the carpet(soaked). I have talked to my son to no avail, begging, pleading, threatening, crying. Nothing is getting through to him, and yes he is dysfunctional. What can I kill the mold with that won't put me in the hospital? Any ideas on how to get my son to understand how serious this really is? I'm fresh out. I very firmly believe that genetics load the gun, and things that are in our environment is what pulls the trigger when it comes to someone getting a very serious disease. I've noticed that not everyone gets sick when exposed to the same bad things. I don't want my family becoming another statistical number in the list of diseases, if I can help it. Guest guest
The California Mold Remediation guidelines have a lot of good information about remediating mold, and it also contains links to some good information about the health effects of mold. http://www.library.ca.gov/crb/06/01/06-001.pdf ________________________________ From: crystal.nightwolf <crystalnightwolf@...> Sent: Saturday, June 13, 2009 8:00:50 AM Subject: [] New Member seeking ideas A member on ReUseIt Cafe posted about this group, so now I'm here looking for information. Guest guest
, Good luck with your problem. I'd focus more on removing the mold and the moisture areas than killing the mold. Dead mold is still a health issue. Interesting Web site and new to me. A quick scan on mold seems to be a reasonable first " take " but with some details to quibble over in complex situations or when people are extra reactive. Check out recommendations thoroughly and decide for yourself rather than relying on someone elses authority or salesmanship skills. Carl Grimes Healthy Habitats LLC ----- > > > > Thank you very much. The mold experts washed the mold away with alcohol. Now I always used bleach or, better yet I removed the sheetrock etc with the mold. But I would investigate using alcohol. It seems pretty safe and non-toxic (I also cannot use ammonia-even my mom's cat's litter box makes me sick) and they said it would work. Meanwhile I would consider getting rid of the carpeting and any material in the basement that mold loves to live on-woods, paper, etc. Good luck! > A member on ReUseIt Cafe posted about this group, so now I'm here looking for information.
