WAVE, Spine team up on stem cell program

http://www.biomech.com/current_full_article/?ArticleID=210

Under a partnership announced between WAVE Manufacturing and

Spine Partners, the two will work together to integrate

vibration therapy into the stem cell harvesting process.

The agreement also grants Spine the exclusive rights to sell

WAVE's presurgical vibration conditioning technology to the

orthopedic and neurological marketplace.

The WAVE (Whole-body Advanced Vibration Exercise) system allows

patients with conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and arthritis to

improve their fitness at a cellular level before spinal surgery,

according to the company.

WAVE technology produces a type of vibration process that is similar

to vigorous exercise. Recent research shows that this technology can

improve circulation, reduce pain, and increase flexibility—with

minimal stress to joints and in a fraction of the time of

conventional therapies, according to WAVE.

Increasing circulation helps prepare the surgical site by stimulating

the body's natural healing response.

WAVE technology can also stimulate and produce growth factors to

recruit regenerative cells that play an important role in healing and

recovery, according to the company.

" Vibration exercise pre-op may help elevate the quality of cells that

are harvested, thus further aiding the body's healing process, " said

Larry Leigh, director of research and training for WAVE.

Spine Partners LP, an orthopedic biotech company, is based in

Austin, TX. WAVE Manufacturing is based in Toronto.
