Guest guest
Holly, Assuming your Mom's nutrition is not high in salt, and that she is able to move around to stimulate circulation, just 2 thoughts - maybe ultrasound therapy in PT would help? Or some other PT for lower legs and feet? Gretchen
Guest guest
Holly, There is a device available called an Exerciser 2000 Elite. It is a passive exerciser offered by Enterprises that may help with edema problems. You can check it out on the Web Site at www.enterprises2000.com This device worked for me to relieve minor edema swelling of my ankles and lower legs along with stiff and painful hips. This company is located in Salina Kansas, phone number 1-800-748-7172. There may be a DC with a clinic near you that has one of these devices where you can see if it will work. Guest guest
Hi, my grandmother had the same problem back in the 1960's and she was diagnosed with CMT after she died. But even with me and i'm 46, I have swelling in my right leg and foot. I have been told its to do with my CMT and nothing I can do about it. In fact, exercising or walking in the town doesnt seem to make any difference. With my grandmother though, I remember my mum dressing her legs and cleaning the blisters that leaked. Hers were badly swollen too but I guess back in those days knowledge of treatments wasnt as good.
Guest guest
Holly: I am having a similar experience with the added symptom of both lower legs being bright red. I think my problem is contact dermatitis, but I will be seeing a dermatologist for treatment. With this CMT offers both good and bad sides. The bad side is that it probably is caused by a reaction to laundry detergent or something that is contacting my feet. It is exacerbated by the profuse sweating -- I usually go through 3-4 pairs of socks a day. The good side is that as sensation is approaching zero in both feet, they don't itch! Maybe your mother has an allergic reaction to something as I do. If so, the treatments could be minimal. --Larry
