Guest guest
says: >>And how does this work when third parties are blaming the victim?<< --Blaming victims is a defense mechanism, a way of convincing oneself that one is safe from victimization. There's a sacrificial element to it -- mentally pushing victims in front of the bus, so we won't fall under the wheels. That produces an undercurrent of guilt, which requires more blaming, and so on. The observing mind must absolve itself of connection to the observed, resorting to any convenient justification for not caring -- but the need to advertise how little one cares should be a sign that something is going on beneath the surface.
