Guest guest
Hi Mark, I had a total knee replacement 2 years ago with no problems. I am sure everyone is different and it would depend on how much muscle you have left around the knee joint to hold it in place. I would try and find a doctor who has done knee replacements on CMT patients so he knows how they rehabilitated after surgery. We are all so different in our progressions and what might work for me might not work for you.? I know I am scared as I get progressively worse that it will effect the knee replacement but I try and not think about it and will cross that bridge when it happens. Guest guest
Hello Mark F, I was told I could not have a knee replacement as the muscle was not stronger enought to hold the knee etc. Jill x
Guest guest
Mark F, I had my right knee successfully replaced about 8 years ago. The importnt thing is to do the PT exercises faithfully after surgery. I found that part to be arduous and painful, but I'm glad I stuck with it, because now I have good range of motion and no knee pain. I say go for it. Good luck. Enjoy some good books or movies while you're healing. Be kind. Everyone you meet is struggling with something Ruth
Guest guest
That's what my 65 year old sister was told. That or the other muscles may not be strong enough to support her through rehab. She is going to Cleveland Clinic for a better evaluation. Even for people without CMT there are no guarantees that a joint replacement will be 100% successful, though most people have good outcomes, especially if they work hard in PT.
