Guest guest
Did they not have the size you needed? You can't cut those because the fibers will get stirred up in the air unless the instructions says it is OK. > > Today we purchased a new window air coniditioning unit for my room. I also picked up a Merv 8 filter to add to the a/c unit... If I remember correctly I should just cut the filter and duct tape it over the air intake grid (taking around the edges only)but I'm a little confused. The Merv 8 filter is pleated, should I smooth out the pleats for a better fit over the intake?... and how often should I change the filter? >
Guest guest
I think the filter he recommends is not pleated one. I believe they sell a WEB filter for using on air conditioners that you can cut to size. Look on WEB Filter site at there selection. If there is a Home Depot near you, you can get Filtrete brand " filter fabric " . It is already flat and plyable and you can put that over anything. It's not washable so you replace when necessary. The WEB filter he refers to I believe is wash and reuse one. The Filtrete fabric is not easy to see but is in the Filter Aile and it's usually sitting flat in a box. You can ask for help if you can't find it. I put it over my cold air returns to keep dirt from getting into air system. I just tuck it under edges of vent cover and I can pull it up if I am having company. > > Did they not have the size you needed? Guest guest
Thanks... I'll have to go back and exchange it... I don't know where my mind was when I purchased this one... I think I just wanted to get out of there cause I was wearing a mask and my nose was sunburnt and I was getting a headache... I thought it was supposed to go over the indoor intake to help keep the coils clean? > > > > Did they not have the size you needed? Guest guest
I think it does go over the 'indoor intake' in order to keep coils clean. Yes, that's my understanding, but the material he recommends I am sure is not pleated, and it meant to be cut to size. If you can't find that, get the Filtrete Fabric at Home Depot. I've seen the WEB filter material they advertise for air conditioners online to order. I have not seen it in store to buy off the shelf, but perhaps it is there somewhere. > > Thanks... Guest guest
I found the Filtrete, Room Air Conditioner Filter (Cat. No. 9808)... It says it's Electrostatically charged and captures dust, smoke particles, mold spores, pet dander and pollen...and it has the instructions of how to add it to your existing filter screen... it cost less than $5, lasts up to 2 months and there is enough material that I'd be able to change it out two more times (so about six months of coverage in one box)... Oh and it has the American Lung Association - Health House seal. Thanks for the suggestion Barb > > I think it does go over the 'indoor intake' in order to keep coils clean.
