Guest guest
Personally its just not worth the risk or the money involved to remediate. Humid basements are a BIG RED FLAG of a problem in the works. Humid basements are the ideal breeding grounds for toxic mold. From: caroleajen <carole.jenisch@...> Subject: [] damp basement Date: Friday, July 31, 2009, 4:43 AM Hello all, I'm in Vermont, looking for an inexpensive house to buy. I've seen one that is highly desirable in terms of my chemical sensitivities, but the basement smells of mold and is wet, and I don't tolerate mold. My understanding is that it is an expensive proposition to remedy this situation, but I'm asking again just to double check as I'd really like this house. Would I need to hire someone to come in and check to see if the mold has gone up the walls inside the house? Is there an inexpensive way to dry out the basement and rid it of mold and seal it from becoming wet and moldy in the future? (I guess I'm asking for the impossible here, but I just want to double check my thinking) Thank you. Carole
Guest guest
My recommendation is to stay away from the house. The molds in the basement are probably dispersed into wall cavities and attic. Guest guest
Carole, pass on it. Find something dry with no undisclosed leaks. This is a good time to buy because it's been so damp in the Northeast and if there are mold problems, you'll smell it. Chances are that there may be hidden mold there too. Guest guest
I would not EVER buy a home that has obvious mold issues. I bet they are selling them Cheap. The spores/mycotoxins are on everything and where there is mold, it keeps growing into a Monster as long as it has what it needs to survive. My crawlspace was damp and contaminated with mold and also contaminated my airhandler/ducts that just made inside my home a toxic chamber. Took me 12 years to figure out what was about to kill me over. I spent $11,000 UNDER my house to remediate, waterproof, replace airhandler and ducts. That doesn't cover all the Medical expenses of what it did to me and what I still have to feel today. Had to decontaminate everything inside also from the toxic mycotoxins. Some just leave everything behind b/c they have no choice. Run from any house you think has mold issues. You can look at some of my photos on this group called Rhonda's photos and see the finished waterproofed crawlspace and ugly monster mold in airhandler.
