" I was surprised at the number of links that came up! Here's a clip from one link about mold in home building: Q My daughter suffers from Graves disease and is in her early part of her second trimester. Their home shows signs of heavy mold count and my question is Will mold contribute to complications in her pregnancy? A Graves' disease is an immune disorder that leads to the production of immunoglobulins (antibodies) which stimulate and attack the thyroid gland. This leads to a condition called " hyperthyroidism " (growth of the gland and overproduction of thyroid hormone). In theory, any microbial agent that affects the immune system could exacerbate the symptoms of Graves' Disease. It is also safe to assume that exposure to elevated mold counts could affect your daughter's immune system and ultimately her pregnancy. It is important to note that Graves' Disease in expecting mothers can cause hyperthyroidism and other immune disorders in newborns. For more information on Graves' Disease, visit the following website: <A HREF= " http://mail.microbialdiagnostics.com//jump/http://www.ngdf.org/faq.htm " >ht\ tp://www.ngdf.org/faq.htm</A> and here's another one from " the mold wizard: " <A HREF= " http://www.minnesotascience.com/wizard3.htm " > http://www.minnesotascience.com/wizard3.htm</A> Q Have there been any study results linking Hypothyroidism to mold contamination? My son is 18 and has just been diagnosed. We have been living in a mold contaminated home since March. He also has developed wheezing. A Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland fails to produce enough thyroid hormone (thyroxine and triiodothyronine). Causes include thyroid or pituitary disease, congenital defects, surgical removal of the thyroid gland, or irradiation. Inflammatory conditions, including those resulting from fungal infections or hypersensitivities, may also cause hypothyroidism. For example, Aspergillus flavus, a common indoor mold, has been linked to thyroiditis and possible hypothyroidism [s Hopkins Med J 1979 Mar;144(3):90-3]. Thyroid disease and hypothyroidism may also result from Chronic Mucocutaneous Candidosis (CMC), a rare skin disorder caused by the yeast Candida [br J Dermatol 1997 Jan;136(1):24-9]. Guest guest
Hi folks, We had our house tested today for mold and the result was moderate mold contamination. My immunity has been shot this winter. I have been sick constantly. I thought it was due to low thyroid (which has only been treated for a few weeks), but now I am wondering...... Does anyone know if mold exposure can affect the thyroid function? Jim > __________________________________________________
Guest guest
how will you be cleaning the mold? here is some info on onzone. Kathy Effects Of Ozone Controls Odor and Inhibits Mold Growth Low levels of ozone can control odors and other bad odor problems in the air caused from chemicals, fungus, mildew and mold growth in the home. In warm and humid environments harmful bacteria and fungus grow to dangerous levels. Many of these bacteria, fungi or viruses are air-borne. Just taking in a breath of these organisms can infect you with miserable respiratory problems and contaminate everything in your living or work environment. Why would you subject yourself or family to any unhealthy condition when you can inhibit mold growth and other environmental headaches at the same time! Most odor problems originate from airborne or surface contaminants like; bacteria, molds and fungus growth, spores, and fumes from chemicals. Each substance or compound, if it has an odor, has its own identifying odor. When the chemical nature of a substance is changed, its odor is also changed. When ozone (O3) is introduced with a substance it will react and change the odor of that parent substance. Molds are found mostly in damp areas around humidifiers, attics and crawl spaces under homes, basements, bathrooms, house plants, HVAC ducts, damp ceilings and walls, wet carpets and windows. They can cause damage to most building materials. Condensation from steam and poor ventilation is the biggest cause in bathrooms and around clothes dryers or stoves when they are not properly vented to the outside. The most common are Alternaria, Aspergillus, Cladosporium and Penicilium. Some molds or fungus produce toxins to protect their environment. The toxins or fungus, when inhaled are a significant cause and effect of many health conditions like common allergies, asthmatic reactions, coughing, depression, diarrhea, headaches, irritability, fatigue, memory loss, respiratory problems, sinusitis, sneezing, sore throat, weakened immunity, and wheez ing. The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., has determined that fungus causes nearly every case of chronic sinusitis, the most common chronic disease in the nation. The symptoms of chronic sinusitis include: inflammation of the nose and sinus, stuffiness, nasal blockages, thick mucus and post-nasal drip. There is no known medical treatment for chronic sinusitis but there are alternatives. There are thousands of different types of fungus and one of the worst is called Stachybotrys chartarum, which causes cold or flu-like symptoms but they all have the potential of causing many other health effects. The mycotoxin produced by this fungus is carcinogenic and suppresses the immune system, affects the lymphoid tissue, the bone marrow, liver and kidney. The damage done to building material like drywall and wood from a leaky roof or faulty plumbing can result in high repairs ranging from $7,000 to $30,000 depending on how far it has spread. Burning down a contaminated structure and the following law suits are all unnecessary. Surface areas can be sprayed and cleaned with bleach but take the necessary precautions with good ventilation. Hydrogen peroxide works better. Complete detoxification is essential if you or family are currently suffering from any of the related symptoms because it grows just as fast in the body. Why suffer the nightmares when there are affordable and effective ways to combat your contamination and respiratory problems! Ozone controls, kills and will inhibit mold growth, fungi, bacteria, and viruses through oxidation. In more simple terms, the ozone molecule quickly absorbs the odor molecule and in effect neutralizes it to innocuous compounds like oxides that are odorless. Ozone air purifiers are available for the home or your business to control odors, inhibit mold growth, respiratory problems, and to neutralize the potential sources of cross contamination to foods from bathrooms or washrooms. > We had our house tested today for mold and the result > was moderate > mold contamination. > > My immunity has been shot this winter. Guest guest
I have saver allergies! If my thyroid is low or off for the day, then I can't fight the affects of the allergy. I get sicker and weaker. So yes the two do affect each other. --- Hall <jimchristianhall@...> wrote: > Hi folks, > > We had our house tested today for mold and the > result > was moderate > mold contamination. > > My immunity has been shot this winter. Guest guest
More one this... I have a regimented system of 10 - 1 bleach water, and in the winter when the house is closed up I spray it then wipe it down, and toss the towls right into the laundry. Wash my hands and wear gloves. I don't want to touch the stuff. --- K & T <kcumming@...> wrote: > how will you be cleaning the mold? here is some > info on onzone.
