Ketoconazole 2% nasal spray, makes it into the lungs. f its in your lungs you

can bet its problably in your nasal, throat, small intestine. They found

small nodules 6 months after leaving the dump my company housed me in.

Not a Doc, but the routes of exposure and where the little critters like to

colonize are pretty consistent. I wouldn't wait 3 months

Well, as most members here know, I got out of the mold over a year

ago into a brand new mold free house. I have been doing so well and feeling

great with exception of an on going stomach pain. While having a CT scan on my

stomach, they saw 3 small nodules on my lungs. The doctor took a CT scan of my

lungs and said come back in 3 months to see if they grow. Many are telling me

I need a second opinion. Should I be really concern and get another opinion?

I am pretty sure they were caused from all the coughing when I was in the mold

house.

Does anyone have nodules on their lungs? If so, what are you doing about them

and what should I be doing?

Jackie: There are two groups of organisms in damp indoor spaces that can lead

to nodules in the lungs and other places of the body. These are molds and

Actinomycetes. The most common mold is Aspergillus species that causes

eumycetoma. With respect to Aspergillus the molds are called aspergillomas.

However, one cannot rule out other molds such as Mucor and other Zygomycetes.

The group of organisms are gram positive bacteria called Actinomcetes:

Nocardia, Mycobacterium and Streptomyces, This group of bacteria can cause

nodules referred to as mycetomas. The most well known Mycobacterium is the one

that causes tuberculosis. However, other species of this group are infectious

and are called non-tuberculin mycobacterium infections. This latter group of

inrections is an the rise worldwide. My suspicion is because of indoor air

problems associated with water intrusion. Therefore, I suggest that you have

differential cultures done for molds and bacteria on deep morning sputum. The

treating physician must order the correct cultures for mold and Actinomycetes.

The other alternative is to have mold PCR-DNA for done on the sputum. This

sputum sample can also be cultured for bacteria and Actinomycetes. The cultures

must be held in the incubator for up to 8-10 weeks for mold and Actinomycetes.

If you have further quesitons, please contact me or the forum. If the you have

a mold infection than anti-fungals are called for. However, if the infetion is

from Actinomycetes then then antibiotics specific for this group must be used.

My father in law passed away with lung cancer, and he has lived in a moldy

house.

Can similar tumor formed in brain from mold exposure? What is the best way to

verify the brain tumor is fungus origin without a brain biopsy?

How accurate can MRI and CT Scan tell the difference between a benign brain

tumor and a fungus ball in the brain?

Or, can fungus trigger a brain tumor to form? If so, will ani-fungals be

curative?

Hope

The mycetoma and Eumycetoma can occur in all organs as well as connective

tissues. I have not seen a description of them occuring in the brain.

However, this does not eliminate the brain. I doubt that an MRI could tell the

difference between a malignant tumor and mold induced tumors. Dr. Dennis Hooper

has been testing tumor tissues from people who have died of cancer. He has been

able to identify mycotoxins in the tumor tissues. Probably the best way to

determine the difference would be a biopsy and test for mold DNA by PCR as well

as for mycotoxins. However, the medical establishment will say Hog Wash.

I have know way of knowing what Emory Doctors will do. You can discuss it with

them. Be firm and let them know that you understand what molds and

Actinomycetes can do when they have invaded the body. These organisms are

present in environments with water intrusion. Here are two URLs on the subject

of Mycobacterium. You can look up Streptomyces and Nocardia on medicine.

Here is a review article on Aspergilloma of the brain. The disease occurs in

immunce compromised and immune competent individuals. Note, invasion of the

brain is belived to occur via the sinuses. Also, one must remember that

invasion can also occur along the olfactory tract.

No. Of the lung nodule. There have been papers published on the use of MRI and

CatScans for diagnosis of nodules of either cancer or molds. All one has to do

is search entrez pubmed to find these papers.
