Guest guest
Caril: You are correct in that we must be deligent. The insurance companies and industry are out to take what little we have. I wish to make a couple of more comments on this matter: 1. I have a copy of of Ms. May's Resume. Her only realistic claim to fame is she is a registered nurse. She has no pubplications in the field of toxicology. As a matter of act this includes molds and mycotoxins. 2. She is claiming to be instrumental in getting Oak Ridge Elementary School closed. I have been in communication with Dr. Fried (physician who has worked with parents and the injured childlren), a pharmacologist, a teacher, a parent and the reporter in this matter. None of these parties believed that Ms. May was credible. 3. Ms. May told the parents at Oak Ridge that she had a PCR (polymerase chain reaction) test that would test for T-2 toxins. Come on. PCR is for DNA testing not mycotoxins. When were mycotoxins classified as DNA? 4. Dr. Hooper and Dr. Croft have pubished their results in peer reviewed journals. Where is the data regarding the so called T-2 toxin test published? I produced a website for all to review on this matter. You will have to check the literature regarding cereals and foods to find any information on this test. I can find nothing in the literature regarding humans. 5. Brasel in Dr. Straus's laboratory clearly showed that humans inside of Stachybotrys infested buildings had macrocyclic trichothecenes in their sera. If simple trichothecenes were detected they would have so stated and named T-2 toxin. 6. As pointed out by Sharon, Drs. , Straus and Yang have stated that T-2 toxin has not been found inside of moldy buildings. 7. Be careful of someone who claims to be the world's authority. All we have to do is review the IOM and WHO reports and realize that even these committees of August Scientist recognize that there is no one single authority in this field. I suggest that you carefully examine the references cited by these two organizations and you will see that key research is not cited. 8. Ask for her resume, for letters of reference and the cases where she has testitified. If she has testified ask for the transcripts of the testimony (this also inlcudes any depositions). Daubert requires that one produce a record of such information. -Frye hearings also require such information. Ask, Ask, Ask, and Ask again. Jack D. Guest guest
Excellent points, Dr Thrasher. One of the hardest facts to accept is that there are no easy answers. Those who offer them usually make matters much worse at our expense because we can become so desparate to end the suffering we will grasp at any straw blowing in the wind. The AIHA publication " Recognition, Evaluation, and Control of Indoor Mold " says it best: Formal intervention studies exist and support three statements: 1. Moisture is the primary environmental condition associated with disease. 2. Intervention is possible to resolve moisture problems and subsequent biological contamination. 3. Intervention can resolve disease but requires careful manipulation of the environment. It is the phrase " careful manipulation of the environment " which can be so difficult. And it is this to which we are most susceptible to the ingenious marketers of " stuff. " So, as you said, we must ask, ask ask until each of us understands and trusts the info.
