Kills the bacteria that causes the odor. The bacteria emits a chemical, that smells, but also causes your skin to release sweat, moisture the bacteria needs to live. Another way to kill off the bacteria is with peroxide. I actually used a triple, alternating each day between these: peroxide, rubbing alcohol, and vinegar. You could also use iodine (it can stain clothing), ammonia (this stinks - dilute it), GSE (sticky, so use the First Aid Spray www.nutribiotic.com), TTO (Tea Tree Oil), bactine (sp?)(I suppose), or other disinfectant (oregano oil - very strong so it might sting). The idea was to use enough variation that any immunity the bacteria might develop to one, was killed by the others. Also, be aware that the " white crust " that forms on underarm hair is not dried perspirate, but small shell creatures attached to the hair, and to your clothing (survives washing and boiling water). The way to get rid of these crusties is to use a shaver (a disposal razor), and cut them all off, so the mature ones stop despositing babies onto your hair shaft. And apply the above disinfectants. Shave weekly or more often, as the babies attached to the base of the shaft will grow out on the hair shaft as the hair grows, and have more babies. These shell creatures are like oysters, literally attaching themselves to the hair, so they do not move, and have the a " lid " that opens, and closes, sealing shut, and not letting in any disinfectant. So, to kill them faster, wait until the open up, that is you underarm is sweating, as these shell creatures also emit a chemical that cause you to sweat. When their lids are open, they have released their chemical, you are sweating, and they are absorbing your moisture through their open lid, that is the time to bath in peroxide, as it kills these small shell creatures like salt kills snails. Toss out all, all, all your shirts, once you have been doing this for 4 weeks, and buy all new shirts. Continue underarm shaving and disinfecting for 4 more weeks. Let the hair grow out for treatment for 4 more weeks. If no more white crust, then do it only twice a week, for 8 more weeks. Now, you might go faster than this. Western Med book I read on skin ailments at the Sanford Medical Library in Palo Alto, claimed there was no cure. Ha! Not true. I've been free for over 10 years.
