Hypersensitivity pneumonitis is usually treated by a pulmonary disease (lung)

specialist. One place that specializes in research and treatment of HP is the

National Jewish Medical Center in Denver, Colorado, but you should be able to

find a pulmonary disease specialist in most major metropolitan areas.

I was diagnosed with hypersensitive pneumonitis via blood tests (by LabCorp).

But PCP didn't know what to do as a result of the test and specialists I was

seeing didn't know how to treat. What kind of specialist looks at this test and

what do they usually do about it?

A pulmonary specialist generally diagnoses HP. I believe most people

are given antibiotics or antifungals. Was your oxygen level tested?

Hi,

Sorry .  I understand you tested positive for HP.  You need to be treated for

it.  HP can progress to pulmonary fibrosis, like in MCS the best treatment is

avoidance of the antigen in this case.  Avoiding mold. Having a positive HP

panel and having fibrosis are 2 different things, you really need to see a

Doctor.  Where are you ?

I  am trying to get into see a Dr of Occupational & Environmemtal Medicne

specializing in mold exposure. Here is a site where you can find one in your

area.

God Bless !!

There are I believe 13 Centers of Excellance that treat Interstitial Lung

Disease.  If she has fibrosis, it is different.

Hp can progress to fibrosis if left untreated.  Yes if you have Lung Disease you

see a pulmo HP is rare.  There are 200 disease  that fall under interstitial

lung disease only 2% or less are HP.

She needs to see a doc to do a HRCTS  right now she says her blood panel for HP

is positive.   I could say more but I do not want to be alarming.

God Bless !!

,

I would like to know a little more.  Did you have a High Resolution CT Scan

done ?  What were the results if you did ?  It makes a big difference.  Either

way you need treatment for mold exposure.  If there is no lung damage, the story

is different. Treatment has to be soon to avoid the latter.

If you have lung damage here are the centers of excellance for care.  According

to the list there are 22 in all of US.  Please know there is much reading and I

could say more however I do not want to get ahead and worry you if there is no

need.  Please see a Dr of Environmemntal medicine as they know and accept most

importantly treat mold exposure.  If you need a pulmo and he would let you know

he will tell you.  Then you can refer to this list to find one that is qualified

for HP.

I asked if anyone else had it because I have been in this alone as far as HP and

would like to share treatment options with someone or be able to discuss this

with someone, as I said before HP is rare.

Treatment depends on what caused it. Even with HP there are different causes,

blood work is not only test to make conclusion, it concludes you have a positive

HP blood panel,

I pray this is all you have and are treated very very soon.  Do not let Dr brush

you off,    I was and I am worse because of it.  Move on to the next Dr quickly,

which is why I suggested Dr of Environmental Medicne who knows of mold exposure

Please keep me informed.  Thank you !! Best Wishes !!

What is the treatment of hypersensitivity pneumonitis?

The most important treatment of hypersensitivity pneumonitis is avoidance of

repeated exposures to the offending particles. With early diagnosis and

prevention, the prognosis is good. Prolonged, repeated exposures can lead to

permanent lung damage, scarring, and potentially significant disability.
