Dance/movement

therapists serve in a diverse and expanding world community. Through conference

seminars and plenary events, we are working to create and offer a rich and

multi-layered experience for those who attend. As an evidence-based mental

health discipline, we will examine what we know about the impact of our work in

a pluralistic society, and what it is that we need to learn more about through

research, study and professional preparation.

How do differences in gender, sexuality, Culture, ethnicity, age,

physical abilities, socio-economic status and religion impact and inform the

practice of dance/movement therapy?

How are dance/movement therapy research, theory and practice responsive

to the needs of an increasingly diverse client population and society? How can

the field develop and strengthen in this regard?

How do cross-cultural applications of dance/movement therapy expand the

body of knowledge and ways of delivering DMT services?

We will examine the question of diversity within the profession as

well: who are dance/movement therapists and how can the field grow towards more

diversity within?

Sincerely,

Devereaux, MA, LCAT, LMHC, ADTR, NCC
