Guest guest
Ladies I read with interest the posts on bad experiences with Depoprovera. I was wondering what contraceptives (apart from abstinence!) you have had good experiences with. So many pills seem to come with a horrendous range of side effects. I don't know what variety of CMT I have (not CMT1A but otherwise unknown) but it gets worse when I'm pre menstrual, I'm so shaky on my feet I cant afford to put on weight or for it to get any worse. I know that everyone is diffferent but all anecdotes gratefully received. kind regards Fiona
Guest guest
Fiona: I'm on the Mirana IUD. I've been on it since last September. I only had some menstual pain in the beginning, maybe for a week tops. In the past two months I have felt a couple of cycsts popping. I had a transviginal to confirm this. Other than that, I've had no musculer or nerve issues in my legs. My OB swears that this is the best contraceptive out there for woman. Guest guest
I successfully used the diaphragm for years when the pill caused me so much trouble. J. Warren
Guest guest
None of the women in my family with CMT can take birth control pills, we act like we are crazy and feel like we are too. Geri
Guest guest
Fiona, I was on the Ortho Evra birth control patch for 5 years. I stopped taking it in December. There were no side effects that seemed detrimental and It was so easy to use. Nina in Stockton
Guest guest
Fiona, Mirana IUD uses Progesterone so I had mine removed! Progesterone is not on the drug alert list for CMTers but if they think progesterone blocking drugs may help CMT, then maybe adding more Progesterone to our bodies may be a bad idea. I just don't think its worth the risk. I'd go with a non-hormonal approach. There are copper IUDs that do not use hormones.
