Guest guest
Hi all, I have used my Blue Rocker AFOs for 3 weeks now, and I noticed that when I take them off, my feet feel weaker. My thighs are stronger though. The physiologist told me that I need to see a physiotherapist about this, and I am waiting for an appointment. But I thought I would ask you here, who are AFO-wearers, if you noticed any weakness due to excessive AFO wearing? I wear my all day, much easier to walk with them. Do you know any good foot-excercises? I also finally tested the Blue Rockers outdoors, in the woods. It was a fairly good path, but a lot of slopes. I managed the one mile path, with a little aid from my partner. I tried to walk as much as possible independently, but when it was too steep, I needed help. My feet don't bend enough with the AFOs on. I noticed that there is a possibility of going down sideways, as if it was really really steep, and that way you don't need to bend your foot too much. I was not tired after the hour of walking, but my feet felt sore due to pressure from the AFOs. Thanks in advance, Beata
Guest guest
Beata: I have been wearing AFO's for 11 years now. My feet always go limp after taking my braces off, expecially the left foot that has a foot drop. It is just the foot does not have any support from the brace. I wouldn't go to a physiologist unless you are feeling pain afterwords. I am a stay at home parent now and only wear AFOs when I go out of the house. I also use a motor chair most of the time. I do my walking exercises when my husband is at home from work. Guest guest
Hi Beata, I use a can. I roll my foot from toe to heal back and forth ( holding on to the counter) I also make my toes push the pedals on my stationary bike. This helps maintain strength and balance. Also, holding on to counter with both hands, put one leg back furture and while bending the leg closer in making knee touch, keep other knee from bending and keep heal in the floor. That helps me a lot. In a message dated 4/14/2009 11:33:01 A.M. Guest guest
Thanks, ! I will try these excercises... I just did toe-lifts (stand on my toes and then lower the foot, up again...) That helps too! Beata ________________________________ From: " CountryMom79@... Guest guest
This is going to sound funny..... but be careful... I could have pain for days on toe raises and or toe curls with a towel. Such simple movements... Kim
