Am I married?

My darling Don has been worse the last couple of days. This morning he

showed me a letter a doctor wrote back in 1980 or '81 stating that he could

work,

and was doing well. That was after Don's first open heart surgery. Don put

the letter in my hands at least three times.

Many things he is saying don't make sense, and of course I am having a

terrible time trying to hear him. He told me he couldn't see the bottom half of

a

cowboy that was hanging with his hands gripping the top of the door.

He asked many questions several times. He can't get time and places right,

and in general is very confused. But, the good one was, " Honey, I need to ask

you another question. Am I married? " He was dead serious. He needed to know.

I assured him that we have been married nearly 38 years. He was so relieved.

I never laugh at him when I can see that something is of very serious

concern to him. But, I sure did to myself. " Honey, am I married? "

Love a lot and laugh where you can,

Imogene

Imogene, it is good you can see the humour in Don's question but it must pull at

your

heart all the same. I'm sorry. Have a good mothers' day!

Dear sweet Don...that's precious!

I forgot when you said you'll be getting your new hearing aids? I hope it's

soon so you don't have to miss many more of Don's words to you :).

Yes, Sharon, I can see fun in many things, and yet I am basically a very

serious person. Of course it touched a place in my heart, because he didn't

remember if I was the one he married. Yet, I just knew it was LBD, and saw the

humor in it too.

The idea of Don taking a breath before talking would be great, but if I

interrupt he forgets what he was going to say, and that can be frustrating. I

asked him to pause and take a deep breath several times today. He didn't get

louder.

I will have hearing aids in ten days. I had to go in today and get new molds

made. The makers couldn't believe they were done right, because I have one

ear with a very sharp curve in the canal. He made the molds and they were just

like the molds from before. But, when I do get them I will hear much better.

Love a lot, and let the good times roll,

Imogene

I love your sense of humor- I have to laugh at so much my Mother

says - we traveled to Omaha to meet up with her brother- she, my

cousin Don and I laughed till we cried (several times)- her brother

and my brother just looked at us like we were nuts.

One of the nurse practioners taught us a kinda neat trick- see if you

can get Don to take a breath before speaking- then the voice will be

louder. I have to remind Mother - esp when some of the family is hard

of hearing.

we choose to laugh - only way we've found to chase Lewy away for a

while
