Unfortunately it has taken many years for them to get this far and as usual

there will be problems.

There are several self-serving comments in the article by those

who apprear to be making money taking mold samples instead of

performing mold inspections and assessments. Relying on

samples instead of learning what mold is, why it grows, why does

it grow here and not there, and how to evaluate what is and is not

a " mold problem " for specific individuals. Mold samples by

themselves do not, and cannot, provide those answers.

The education, experience and certifications Arkansas will soon

require them to obtain will provide them with the minimum

necessary knowledge and skills to comprehend when to sample

and when it is a waste of time and money, among other tasks.

Until then they will continue performing what they believe to be a

genuine service to their customers, but which in fact is only an

appearance. It is these types of inspections which many of you on

this group have experienced much to your regret and loss of your

health.

Yes, it has taken many years, there will be problems, and this is

not a " cure all " or " silver bullet. " However, this is one of the better

state regulations. Instead of a law dictating how to perform an

inspection, which differs with every house and situation and

occupant, they are requiring a minimum level of education,

training and experiece. Further, it will be independantly verified by

organizations who themselves are independantly accredited so

no one has a vested interest in the outcome of the inspection.

If the law slows down bad mold detection then the law will have

achieved a good purpose.
