Guest guest
and to All Students You don't have to apply to scholarships specifically because of your dwarfism, rather there are plenty of scholarships for diversity, EOP [equal opportunity for minority], and best of all merit and academic scholarships. There are plenty out there. Stay in touch regularly with your Financial Aid office and sign up for Fastweb. Other recommendations --- many employers have company reimbursement and the best one comes from Starbucks, as employees only have to work 20 hours for full benefits. Also, your State Vocational Rehabilitation should be able to assist you financially, and probably, entirely. I'd say that most students in our community should be able to get their tuition entirely paid for by State Vocational Rehab Office for your undergraduate. Because of State budgets, many do not pay for Graduate school, like they did in the past. Good luck! Guest guest
FastWeb, as you may recall when I signed up for it earlier this year, I e-mailed the list and said the LPA scholarship appeared...no other scholarship showed up for disability, well with the exception of wheelchair-confined persons. Just for the record, the e-mail that mentioned the Barty Foundation one was sent Friday from CollegeBound network. Any other suggestions would be appreciated,
Guest guest
I've never heard of such a thing... given that the disease is so rare that even most GI specialists never come across it, I'd be surprised if you find anything like that. You may want to ask your GI doc if he/she knows of anything for GI patients, though. Sure can't hurt to try! Debbi > > I posted a while ago with my condition when I was new. I don't know of any, however if you have not already done so, you could check with your school counselor, or contact the offices that help students with disabilities and medical problems at some universities. Of course the office of financial aid at a university is also a good place to start. Many will have email addresses that you can contact them through. There are all kinds of strange scholarships, so who knows what you can find. I think there is even one for being tall. notan
Guest guest
- Notan is right. Check with all of those sources, especially the Financial Aid Dept at the schools you are looking into. usually a scholarship for something specific is just given at a certain school, whereas merit/athletic scholarships might be more universal. Guest guest
I'm not sure if you have to be In San Diego for this one however, I got one from the Kawano Family Foundation. Kawano Arthritis scholarship. I know the San Diego foundation was connected to it as well. I can try and get more information on it if you like. I did get this scholarship some years ago. Last I know, they are still doing it. Issadora On 4/26/07, ajaoky@... <ajaoky@...> wrote: Does anyone know of any college scholarships for Juvenile Arthritis????? Guest guest
Rob and I have searched the net hi and low and come up with nothing. You might want to go to www.fastweb.com and try your own search. We only also found ONE scholarship for kids with ADD. We also found ONE for kids with kidney disease. We were extremely disappointed!! Donna, so glad to hear that your heart tests were fine. Halleluia! Thanks to all who wished Rob a very happy birthday today. I'll forward your birthday wishes on to him as soon as he gets home from getting his tattoos (yes, that is plural) and Rob 18 Spondy

Guest guest
My daughter Flannery turned 18 this year and is headed for the University of Oregon which sets tuition at two arms and three legs for California residents like her. Flannery has CMT1A. Has anybody heard of a scholarship available for college students who have disabilities? Of course, I'm willing to do whatever research is necessary to find funds but I'm not sure quite where to start. Thanks. --------- Rick Alber
Guest guest
Hi my name is Amy. I have not been on here in a long time. I have been going through many surgeries. I had to have my colon taken out recently. My colon and bowels shut down. They say the cause is my CMT. I have not found anyone else with this problem. I also ended up with blood clots from the surgery. Anyway, my daughter too is 18 and graduating this year. She has been filling out all kinds of scholarships. We have been trying to find one for disabilities, but nothing yet. We will keep trying. God Bless: Amy  I depend on God and my spouse for support!!! ________________________________ From: Rick Alber <rick@...> Sent: Tuesday, April 14, 2009 1:21:10 PM Subject: Scholarships My daughter Flannery turned 18 this year and is headed for the University of Oregon which sets tuition at two arms and three legs for California residents like her. Guest guest
Rick: I had some problems finding scholarships for disabilities when I went to school too. I would never find any listed at the school itself. It might because I was going to a 2 year school. Remember that the state can help her pay for school too. Go to your local state rehab department for more information. The state of New York paid for my education, books when I went to Orange County Community College. Guest guest
How about starting with Google? I typed in " University of Oregon disability scholarship " and came up with multiple hits. Here is one of them: http://www.washington.edu/doit/Stem/Opp/uo.txt > > (snip) but I'm not sure quite where to start. >
Guest guest
Go to your local state rehab department too. They pay for college, books...and more like hand controls for their car. Guest guest
Great suggestion ... I never thought of it when she asked about scholarships Things may have changed, but more years ago than I care to admit :-) State Vocational rehab paid all my undergrad expenses for four years, including books and a couple of years even gave me a very small stipend for living expenses. I still worked PT to pay my bills, but could have never gotten through college without them. Unfortunately for me, when I went to them about getting a Masters Degree they said I was " already rehabbed " , so had to do that on my own. For those of you looking for a (better) job, State Rehab is usually also where you get certified as disabled to get preference for many state or local government jobs. > > Go to your local state rehab department too. Guest guest
Hello Rick, Go to our Links section, scroll to the 'Education' folder, and open. Three possible resources. I'm so happy Flannery chose U of O. I'm also excited for her! Being 18 was a great time! I wish I could go too! Give Flannery a big hug for me, kind regards to Maureen too Gretchen
