My husband had cellulitis numerous times last year & is getting resistant to

antibiotics.? It can be very serious for him if he gets this germ.? (This type

is highly contagious & they do not want to take the risk of me carrying it back

to him.?)? Believe me I hate not seeing her, but after all the fighting with

cellulitis ( he was hospitalized twice & numerous emergency room trips) his

immune system is severly depressed.? Also they don't want her exposed to

anything.? I know what you are saying because I have a grandson with MRSA also,

but his is the community type & hers was hospital acquired.? It isn't that they

won't let us visit, it is they advise against it for his sake & hers.

Update on my MIL

My MIL's doctor called my husband & told him that they moved my MIL to ICU.

She is extremely confused, still not eating & they are going to do a scope

to see if the MRSA is growing more inside her. He said still not a good idea

for us to visit as she is very contagious & with my Husband's history of

cellulitis that we need to be cautious. I called & talked to her ICU nurse &

she said she is same & that she is sleeping alot, but very confused when

awake. I asked her to check & see if they had checked for a UTI & they had &

it came back ok, so I guess this is a new development. Please keep her in

your prayers & us as well as this is the hardest thing to sit back & trust

that they are doing the right thing. I am very impressed with her caretakers

though because they have really been trying to keep us informed. The strange

part is when I talked to her last night she said she was feeling better.

That which does not kill us makes us stronger.

Thank you Sherry

Re: Update on my MIL

My mom also says she's feeling better, even when it's apparent that she

isn't...

I can understand why your doctor wouldn't want you carrying MRSA to your

husband, but hope that you can see her soon.

I will pray for your MIL and your family :).

Another update on MIL.? She is still in ICU & is not improving.? They have had

to drain her lungs twice.? (She has MRSA in her lungs) I went by again yesterday

& the nurse said her lungs have fluid on them again.? She is on oxygen & still

not eating.? My poor husband is trying to accept the fact that she may not make

it.? They still are advising him to stay away.? I have been going by

periodically, but I do not go closer than 5 feet from her.? They said since she

has it in her lungs that it can be airborne.? This is the most horrendous

disease.? We feel so helpless.? She did wake long enough for me to tell her that

we love & miss her.? They called my husband yesterday & discussed a feeding

tube, but he said no, because that was her wish.?

Keep her & us in your prayers.? I pray she doesn't keep suffering.

Love & Best Wishes to you all,

Genise

That MRSA is just an awful thing. I haven't heard of it in the lungs, but I am

sure my husband may have had it in the bladder and that it caused his the

continuous UTIs. It does sound very serious, and I hope she will be made

comfortable. It's too bad your husband cannot see her. By the way, what is the

cellulitis (sp) that he has?

Cellulitis is a deep tissue infection that can turn to sepsis, blood poisoning,

gangrene,? He had a bad motorcycle wreck in 1990 & his circulation is bad in his

leg, so any infection he gets goes to his leg,?The leg swells, becomes hot to

the touch & he runs very high temperature,??It is treated with usually two

different antibiotics & complete bed rest with leg elevated,?Cellulitis usually

is in the leg, but can go to the face, arm, etc. ?It is similar to MRSA in the

fact that he can become resistant to antibiotics & it is a staph type

infection,? He is also diabetic, so he doesn' t heal as well,

Last year he was getting them every 1 to 2 months, & they advised him that if

they couldn't get it under control that he could lose his leg or worse,

We are both praying for the best & preparing for the worst

I went by yesterday & MIL talked to me for a minute & I told her how much we

loved her & she told me she would never forget me

Broke my heart & of course I told her I would never never forget her either

This morning my husband called me at work & said hospital called & they are

planning on moving MIL to a long term facility on Monday & wanted copies of

Living Will & Power of Attorney so I will be taking that on Monday

I noticed yesterday that she was swollen especially her right arm & I mean it

looked like it was about to bust.? I suspect cellulitis in it as it was hot to

the touch.

Re: Update on my MIL

Genise, I am so sorry about your MIL. Your husband must have a low sinking

feeling in his heart, too. It is so hard to go through all of this trying to

keep them alive. But, sometime they do make it. I hope that is true in your

MIL's case.

Love a lot, and keep strong with each other,

Imogene

Genise,

How can they move her is she is so contagious? Or are they moving her to

isolation? Would you and they not consider Hospice in the hospital?

I am so sorry to hear and my thoughts and prayers are with you and yours.

I don't know, I was up there yesterday & they didn't say anything to me about

moving her.? I think they are wanting to get her out of there since we refused

the peg tube.? Supposedly there are only two places they can send her & both

have under 8 patients.? They told my husband they couldn't send her back to her

regular nursing home.? I have been reading up on MRSA & this stuff is really

scary & extremely easy to contact.? Her nursing home ADON told us the other day

that most healthcare workers are colonized with it.? So everyone, please be

careful & watch your loved ones for any kind of sores.

They said at the hospital when they first moved her that they thought she was

only colonized with it, but that she has it in her lungs.? A friend of ours told

us last night that once in the lungs they almost always do not recover.

I hope he is wrong, but she seemed weaker & sicker yesterday than she was my

last visit.

Went to see MIL today at the Extended Care Hospital.? They suggested she might

have sepsis from the MRSA.? She is still swollen & having problems breathing.?

She didn't respond to us very much at all.

We talked to them about possible hospice.? They are going to discuss with her

new doctors & get back to us.?

I really don't know how she is holding on as ill as she is.? For a tiny little

woman she is very strong.

My husband & I are very close & we are making it through.? All the prayers are

felt.

Love to you & Don,

Good gracious! Genise, I am so sorry. That is terrible. It is draining all

of you. I am really wondering what is wrong. Have her kidneys shut down?

So hard to smile in the face of what you have, but dear at least hold your

chin up.

Love you,

My husband & I went to see MIL yesterday

They are moving her to another hospital with a extended care unit

Basically they are telling us that at the ICU she?is in they cannot improve

her condition where she could return to her old nursing home or any other

She is swelling everywhere & they aren't sure why

They have already drained her lungs 4 times now & she is still having

respiratory problems

My husband handled seeing her better than I thought

We took every precaution available to protect ourselves

I pray that none of you have to go through this

It has truly been a nightmare

Love & hugs,

Thanks for talking to us, Genise. It is so hard to watch a loved one suffer,

and I am sorry for it, and am sorry she is so ill. It makes me happy that

you and your husband are close and can give each other support. That is the way

my husband (Don, a popular name) are with each other.

Stay strong by your love. My love and prayer keeps me going. There is more

strength in Love than anything.
