From an article in the Merced Sun Star.

Consider a staff white paper report on the temporary use of a 12-unit

apartment complex on Highway 59 as a homeless shelter. The complex was

bought by the city Redevelopment Agency as part of a project to realign

the road and install a four-way traffic signal. Black mold has been

found in four of the units, and the remaining apartments would need to

be tested at a cost of $9,200. Repairing the four units would cost a

total of $32,000. All the money would come from the city's general

fund. The city said it would look to partner with a nonprofit agency or

church to run the daily operations.
