Hi Gretchen and Group,

I live in Elgin, which is about 25 miles east of Austin.  I do get to travel

Texas to see my step daughter in Lubbock, but other than the windmills there is

not much to see out in west Texas.  My wife has a lot of family in Fredrickburg,

so we do get to see the hill country often as well.  Even though we are 25 miles

from Austin, we are still a very small town, which after growing up in St. Louis

is really strange for me.

I am not sure how many people in the group are from Texas, but I know there is

no CMTA support group around here.  I have contacted the CMTA and am working to

try to set up a central Texas support group.  I have not been able two work in

over a year so I am now a stay at home dad to five kids(3 step children and 2 of

my own), and they are all under the age of 9.  Sorry to carry on, was not my

intention.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Kris

Hi Kris,

I live in Sugar Land SW of Houston. I was diagnosed 5 years ago with CMT,

decided to have the Athena genetic test which was pd by insurance (thankfully,

since it was around $15K) and they determined that I don't have CMT, I have

HNPP (hereditary neuropathy with presssure palsy). I'd have never known this

w/o the test, it masks as CMT. Basically, I am missing the PMP22 gene.

But I still need all the aids...cane on a good day for short in the house walks,

a walker for longer/more tiring trips and a scooter for stores, airports etc.

My handwriting is a mess, numbness, basically the same symptoms as CMT. I walk

and have the limitations of someone with CMT, so I guess we're all in the same

boat.

So welcome to the group. I found a support group for HN (not CMT) in West

Houston, my neuro says there is a CMT group in the med center. If the group is

well run and welll moderated, you do get good info. That's how I found out to

AVOID vitamin B6. So knowledge is power, good luck with your group. We need

all the info we can get.
