Guest guest
MUSTY IS the odor many people use to describe a mold odor. Those black dots are most likely mold. If it's on the front, it's most likely on the other side of the sheetrock. It smells, NOT because it's been behind the dw for 19 years, but because there has been moisture there, and mold grew. Consider using a 2 " hole drill bit for a rotary drill, and drill some holes a few inches ABOVE the topmost black spot. Pull those plugs out and inspect the back of those sheetrock circles. At any rate, you should cut the rock above the visible spots, and if there's mold on the plugs, above there, too. Before you replace that rock with anything, pull out any insulation, clean the area, and put in new insulation. Also, do not put that dw back in. It seems it's been leaking. get a new one, or do without until you can. My opinion only. I am just going to pull out until the kitchen doesn't make me react. I'm just afraid it's behind a corner group of cabinets that will be impossible to get to. > > > > >
Guest guest
Yes, I've pretty much come to that conclusion too. I don;t think there is insulation behind the sheetrock but I'm very sensitive to it so I will not be replacing it if it's there. Also I am going to buy another dishwasher but won;t until I fell absolutely perfect again in my kitchen. Who knows what else is lurking-I'm taking one step at a time. But thanks for the confirmation re the black dots-it does seem like some type of mold. But can you tell me why I can't seem to bleach it off the formica? I would think it cannot penetrate solid formica and yet the bleach is doing nothing-weird. Thanks again! Surella > > MUSTY IS the odor many people use to describe a mold odor. Guest guest
Re: spots. Interestingly the Bible's reference what is believed to be to moldy house, describes the house as a house with 'leprosy', so yes, spots can be mold and I think are more often seen that way than those runners coming up from floor. Peaks coming up from floor is from flooded floor but often mold is not from flood. > > Ok so I pulled the dishwasher out. I feel better already BUT behind the machine is a piece of sheetrock with smudgy black dots. Now my experience with mold is the creepy crawly kind that inches up from the bottom of the sheetrock. Guest guest
So Formica is just paper with resin-I'm doomed when they replace my cabinets. Resin cannot possibly be non-toxic-I won;t be able to be in my kitchen till it off gasses. Nightmare-I want to move! > > Here's the story of the manufacturing of formica: > http://www.formica.com/publish/site/na/us/en/index/content/about_formica/manufac\ turing/manufacturing.html > > Ella >
