Guest guest
We complain of 'normies' using our handicap parking spaces without a placard or those using an acquired placard inappropriately. However, have we observed any mis-use within our own community? How about these scenarios, which I'm sure more than just I have seen ... 1. A vehicle stops in front of a store and someone obviously handicapped gets out. The driver then pulls into the last available handicapped spot, throws up a placard, and proceeds to wait in that prime property until their handicapped passenger exits the store. The driver then pulls out and drives to the front to pick up them up. Why didn't driver park a bit farther away and not use a handicapped spot? 2. Or, a vehicle stops in front of a store and someone not so obviously handicapped gets out. The driver then pulls out and drives to the front to pick up them up. Was the driver handicapped but mis-using the principle of the placard because they could? If the passenger was the handicapped person, see example #1. 3. Or, how about this ... a driver pulls into a prime handicapped parking spot and proceeds to use a rear hoist/lift to download their scooter/power chair. Since the user has power mobility, couldn't they park just a bit farther away? I anticipate several " yes-but " responses but I encourage all of us consider our fellow crips.
