Guest guest
Andy, Andy, Go where you have to go to see the right people. A 2 hour drive is certainly worth it, whether it be in New York where recommends or to s Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. Sometimes you have to go in with research in hand and ask them what they think. I had a fabulous doctor, very renowned, at s Hopkins, but I would still go in with copies of braces that have been recommended from here and he would then write me the prescription. I have also been told that a physiatrist (a rehab specialist) is a great person to see as they can coordinate the orthotics, OT and PT properly. Use this group for you knowledge, print off things that you think will help you and then take with you to the doctor. Again, look into your state Department of Vocational Rehab. You will be surprised at the type of expensive equipment they will buy for you to keep you working. They will also come out to your office to evaluate and order equipment that they think will help you. Their primary goal is to keep people working and off of disability. Believe me, I understand your plight. I was a single parent for 18 years starting from the time my son was 5 months old and could have never survived on disability so I kept plugging along and using my resources. Of course, I was very lucky having my son's father active in his life and a wonderful support system of friends and family, and I give gratitude for that everyday. Good luck and please keep us informed and keep asking questions till you get what you need. Jackie
