Guest guest
I haven't heard of it before, so googled it and read that it is still waiting for US approval. Too bad, when someone has a terminal illness, they can't at least try it, but it doesn't work that way. Is she on any of the three meds usually given - Aricept, Excelon, or Razadyne, and also Namenda, which is usually used with one of those three? None are a cure, but can stabilize for awhile and increase some cogninance for some. It will be interesting to see how this med works out when it's finally gone through its testing stages. My husband was in the test study for Alzhemed, but we had to discontinue it, as he broke his shoulder on one of our trips to the testing city, and I could no longer travel with him. However, the medicine did not pan out as hoped for, so it is available only as a supplement, whatever that means. Good luck with your mother. Guest guest
Many thanks Sharon. Please let me know if you hear anything. Since Cerebrolysin is used for over 10 years in some countries for other neurologic ilness, I hope we can say the drug is safe to use ( I have checked with my mother's doctors as well). However it would be great if I can get feedback before moving forward. Thanks Selma > From: Selma Karadurak <selmakaradurak@ yahoo.com> > Subject: cerebrolysin - Any ideas? > To: LBDcaregivers@ yahoogroups. com > Date: Tuesday, July 15, 2008, 6:20 PM > Hi All, > > My mother who is 83 has LBD. Guest guest
Hi June, Thanks for your reply. My mum is on Exelon (6mg), Ebixa, Omega 3, Turmeric, Co-Enzyme 10. She was diagnosed as having AD in 2003. However last year after finding out this group I realised that my mother has most of the LBD symptoms rather than AD. Her doctor was agreed with me as well since she cannot tolerate Serequal, Zeldox etc.. Like Alzemed, it seems most of the trial medicines are becoming supplement in the end. Very frustrating indeed. However I am trying Turmeric and Co-Enzyme 10. I am thinking of trying ALA (Alpha-Lipoic Acid) but I hope I dont overdue all these supplements and make her situation worse. Good luck with your husband. Guest guest
He is deceased now. We tried about everything that was available early-on - Vitamin E, Ginko, Aricept of course, Namenda, Vitamin B, Omega 3 for a short time, and nothing can or will stop the disease. Some may delay it, but at this point, it's just a matter of trying to slow down the symptoms, or in some cases maybe some improvement. He lasted about 7 years from the time of dx with Alzheimer's in 1999. He had both AD and LBD as well as a possible stroke. Other than Ebixa, which I don't know what that is for, none of the others should be harmful, and many really think COQ10 really helps.
