Guest guest
> Has anyone used some kind of fixative or spray to limit the amount of mold that gets airborne in this situation? Should we try to wipe it down with a biocide first? There's a small area where the plywood is coming up in layers and there's fuzzy mold. This is where I'm really concerned about containing the mold spores--it's not a smooth surface to wipe down. ____________________________________ Always have some form of exhaust fan running when the removal work happens. Guest guest
The same thing is happening to me right now! I had a leak under the sink and removed one solid sheet of formica that backed the sink. A big whiff of mold came out when we removed it. Now I don't know whether the formica under the sink is moldy too and am thinking of just removing the whole bottom piece. To answer your question-I don't believe a fixative etc will be effective. Just removing a sheet of formica (no cutting or anything) contaminated my kitchen for 2 weeks now and its still not good. I suggest removing an entire piece carefully-moldy or not just take the whole piece away and replace it. It's very discouraging when this kind of thing happens-I have resorted to taking an anti anxiety medication for the duration because, from past experience, I know the stress of wondering when and if my kitchen will ever be good again is almost as bad as the mold it self. Good luck! > > We have some mold under our kitchen sink from a plumbing leak we didn't notice right away. The wood needs to be removed. Our handyman will try to avoid sawing through the mold but some of it is unavoidable. > >
Guest guest
Thanks for the link, jolly. There's a window above the sink so we could seal off a fairly small work space and exhaust right out the window. Surella, sorry to hear you have the same dilemma! I'm scared what we might find underneath the wood as well. I do want the whole piece of wood taken out but there are some pipes that go through it. But I'll check if it's possible to disconnect the pipes so the sawing goes around the perimeter, not where the mold is in the center. It is really stressful. We've done so much work on the house and it's much better, now I'm afraid this might blow it. Thanks and good luck to you too. Amy
