Guest guest
Jan, are you thinking of the PACE program, which is administered through Hospice and paid for by Medicare? They do essentially the same thing as Hospice, but people can be younger than 65 to get it. If a person is already on Medicaid, I don't know if they pay for the cost or not. Otherwise, most of the offices for aging in a city/ town have programs for people on Medicaid--in-home care a few times a week for a few hours a day. Guest guest
Thanks June! Oh, it's Medicare related I thought it was Medicaid. If it's connected with Hospice is it Palliative (sp?) care? Thanks for answering quickly. Is it Medicaid-in-home care? I'm confused now. I am filling out the annual reevaluation form for Jim to remain qualified with Medicaid and it asks if I have any questions they will contact me and I wanted to ask about the PACE Program. Maybe I would take Jim out of the nh and bring him home and have him on PACE. Depending on what they say. Guest guest
I don't think it's pallative care unless they are at that point. Because they take people at a younger age, I would think it wouldn't be. If you type in P.A.C.E. in your search engine, it should take you to the site. Be sure to use the periods, as there are lots of things called PACE. From what I understand, it is a Medicare program, but possibly, if the person is already on Medicaid, perhaps they might be responsible. But, I doubt it, because you don't have to pay anything for it like you do at the NH. Be sure there is a P.A.C.E. program in your area, as there aren't too many in the U.S. I think less than 50, and surprisingly, Kansas has two of those--Wichita and Topeka. Kansas City, KS and MO neither one has one. The site will tell you where the programs are located. I think, also, that put something in the files about it, too. Medicare kind of keeps this program quiet, I suppose because of the cost to them. --- Janet Colello wrote: > Thanks June! Oh, it's Medicare related I thought it > was Medicaid. Guest guest
Hi Jan, I'd be happy to tell you what I know about Medicaid. First, to be eligible, earned income needs to be less than $1,359 per month. That's the most important criteria. If this is the case, the person then cannot have more than about $3,000 (I forgot this exact amount, but can get it for you if you need it) in total assets. Know that all money can be moved out of his/her name. There is no look-back period for Medicaid HOME care. A large (but not difficult) application needs to be filled out and brought to your local Department of Social Services with all pertinent documents. (Again, I can elaborate on this if need be.) If the person is eligible, DSS will open the case and have a nurse come out to evaluate and determine how many hours of home care they will provide. Please let me know if you need more specific information right now. I'd be glad to help you with the application if it comes to that. Guest guest
Jan, FYI: Hospice at home is given through Medicare (not Medicaid).
