Guest guest
We had just catastrophic coverage for a year or so which was pretty cheap. It only covered hospitalization and/ or surgery. It was through a company called Golden Rule. Diane and Jim Emerick emerick@... Guest guest
I'm a teacher so yes our family is fully covered (the policy is like $1,300 a month so no way would we have it otherwise) and we have many choices of alternative doctors except I pay for my classical homeopath out of pocket. Guest guest
My husband is a teacher, too, here in Kentucky. It was through the state that we could get our insurance. When it was getting to the point where we would have to pay $500 a month (our share) we finally said thanks but no thanks. That was the cheapest plan available, too! Do you pay $1300 out of pocket for your insurance?? I know Ohio provides much cheaper insurance for their teachers. Wonder what's wrong with Kentucky??? Guest guest
Dh started a new job and will pay around $400 a month in family coverage. What a waste of money! He says he wants some check ups and work done on his teeth. We shall see how much insurance actually pays when it comes time. Most hospitals have programs that cover costs for people of various incomes.Ofcourse that just covers hospital fees and not doctor fees. Guest guest
We have medical insurance -- thank God -- as we have had an emergency appendectomy and an unexpected pregnancy. The pregnancy costs for that alone were well over $30,000, so I'm glad we have the insurance. Luckily for us, my employer considers that a fringe benefit and covers the entire cost. The only thing we have to pay is our deductibles and co-pays for using the plan.
Guest guest
Well we can't afford health coverage at the moment. I had full coverage for all of us as I was working for a University. They have great benefits. But I was thinking about this. Having great benefits also means that you're in the system and a lot worse off if you choose not to vaccinate. Quite frankly I also don't trust the conventional treatment methods here in the states so it's better for us Elena Re: OT: Health Insurance > >
Guest guest
Yes, we pay about $400 to have all three of us covered, but the coverage is very good with low copays. Wonder what's wrong with Kentucky??? No as a teacher in WI they pay the premium--I don't pay a cent. I don't know for how long they'll keep doing it as premiums are getting ridiculous and have tripled in 10 years. I would feel very uncomfortable without some sort of major medical plan for my family. If someone in my family would have a major accident, head trauma, heart attack, need extended hospitalization then your finances are over for life. I can understand not having it just for the little trips to the doctor for a visit here and there. It's the same with car insurance--you hate to pay it but if your car is totalled and people are injured.... L. Guest guest
I know this is off topic but since so many in this group suffer from lack of health insurance, thought it was of interest. It looks like health insurance companies may win again and Obama admin considers backing out of offer to extend medicare/medicaid type servie to uninsured, in favor of Repub proposed co-op services, businesses would be able to form their own health care co-ops, so everyone will not have a chance at having insurance if I read it correctly. What a shame. http://news./s/ap/20090816/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_health_care_overhaul
Guest guest
Yes, it is a shame that there has been so much disinformation regarding health care reform. The insurers and pharma industry has spent close to $40M to see to it that they've riled up the general non-thinking public. I loved Obama's last town hall meeting in CO where he lambasted them for the rumor-monging.
