Guest guest
Hi Geri, I have a cleaner. She comes once a week and cleans for 2 hours. Vacuums, dusts, floors + kitchen and bathroom. I tidy myself, but I really hate cleaning. I could do it, but my grandmother (not a CMTer) once said that she works for one hour and earns what she pays her weekly cleaner... (She had a shop). So I think if you can afford it, ask for a professional! It is great when they remove the dirt and dust, then you can just organize and decorate. (I like that!) Fortunatelly, we have had cleaners in my family always (my grandmther, mother and now me), so it is not a big deal for me. I can understand it is a bit hard to employ someone to clean, you might feel like you can't do it yourself. For me it is natural, I work and earn the money I give the cleaner. Working is more fun than cleaning! Can't get things done like I used to and family not likening the way my house looks ...not wanting to come and see me as they once did. I just get to sad about it al too thin-skinned I guess. Guest guest
While I was away at a wedding this weekend, my friend Joyce stayed here at the apartment and took care of our pets. When we got home, she had cleaned the apartment for me! What a wonderful surprise. I have asked her if she would consider doing it for me every two weeks or so and what she would charge. I did get her a beautiful pair of White Mountain jeweled flip flops for staying with the pets....hmmmmm maybe I can pay her in flip flops???? She so loves to wear them...lol What is the current rate per hour for a cleaning lady, anyone know??? Hugs, Sherry
Guest guest
Here in Santa Barbara the average hourly rate for cleaning is $20.00 per hour, that is if you hire only one person, and pay in cash. Cleaning Services are more and it is never the same people who come. Gretchen
Guest guest
Hi Sherry, Do you have any kids at home? My 13 year old daughter helps me out A lot! I pay her by making sure she has a cell phone and clothes and any other little extra things she may want. She really doesn't mind it. She actually seem to enjoy it. She's also in sports and gets mostly A's.
Guest guest
Sherry, you got a beautiful gift for your friend. I feel so good having someone clean my house every other week and I pay 90 dollars and I do feel is so worthy it..it helps me so much. I hope you get someone to clean, its great, even though with 2 pets the house gets dirty. spy
Guest guest
Spy, I think having someone do the cleaning would help me very much too. Just have to work out the final plans. Hugs, Sherry
Guest guest
, I have a 23 year old son at home. He works part time, goes to school full time, also has CMT. He does care for his room pretty good and occasionally remembers to take the garbage out and a few other things. He's a good kid. ...so I don't really pressure him too much, I feel he has enough on his plate Hugs, Sherry -- Re: cleaning Hi Sherry, Do you have any kids at home? Guest guest
Sherry, Good going for him! I would do the same. I am lucky and thankful that she hasn't had any CMT symptoms.
Guest guest
Have a friend come over to give you a hand? I know I used to find it easier to help a friend with their house than it was to do my own, as it was more of a social event and I enjoy helping others. I'm sure you have some friends that are wanting to help in some way but don't know how or what until you either mentIon or ask them. They can do the bending or lifting that you have difficulty with or not be able to do for long. Just a thought. I can do some of the housechores now, but certainly not all of them. Our house is still quitemessy, which I hoped to work on before surgery, but I didn't get muchdone beforehand due to the short notice and the high pain levels I wasexperiencing at that time. But now that I've been home for over two months, the mess is drivingme more and more crazy. My husband has been pretty good about doingthe chores that are absolutely necessary -- such as dishes, laundry, and taking out the trash -- but it is impossible to get him to work ontidying, organizing, and weeding out things we no longer need. Andthose are things I desperately want to get done. I've started to workon some of it, but it is certainly not easy to do at this point. Doyou have any pointers on how I can tackle this, so that it will stopdriving me crazy? I'm sure some of you will tell me not to let itbother me, but I've tried that, and I haven't been able to succeed.Any suggestions? Thanks,
Guest guest
Cam, Thanks for your suggestions. I have been considering hiring a regular cleaning person, but it is expensive. Though we will only need to pay for daycare for three more months, so our budget will be more flexible after that. Perhaps I can find a way to squeeze it in now. Hiring someone, such as a college student, to help with organizing could also possibly work. I did hire a college student once to catch up on housework (several months ago), and the amount of work he got done in a few hours blew my mind. Perhaps he's still available. I've always wished I could hire an organization professional to help with my house, bit that's out of reach unless I become suddenly wealthy. So if I hire anyone to help, it will need to be something informal. I really need to weed out items and get rid of at least a quarter of the stuff in our apartment. I hate just throwing everything away, so the follow up chore of selling items or offering them on Freecycle will be a tedious one. But I'd rather they get a new home than end up in a landfill. I love the idea of getting a janitor's dustpan. At a former job of mine, we called them " butlers. " It's such a simple fix that I feel silly for not thinking about it myself. Perhaps it's time for a trip to Target. Thanks again. As my medical condition improves, I'm left with the new challenge of how to adapt additional everyday activities to my physical condition. The suggestions that you and others in this group have been able to provide for me have been very, very helpful, and for that I am extremely grateful. Guest guest
Llweyn -- There are only two units in the building, and the other unit is occupied by the 90 year old owner of the building. So unfortunately, that is not an option. -- That is amazing that you manage to handle everything yourself! Has it affected your recovery in any way? I have been doing some things a little at a time, but other tasks I haven't figured out how to do yet (such as cleaning floors, moving things around, and emptying the kitchen trash can). I've found ways to do laundry, tidying most of the kitchen, doing some picking up, folding laundry, etc.). However, I can't tolerate doing these things for too long overall during the day. My pain level skyrockets fairly quickly, but I need to be able to do these things. Hence the frustration.
