Guest guest
It is not for those of us with CMT because of the possibility of burns, inflammation and increased muscle contractions. ~ Gretchen > > > > Elinor, > > > > At the Bioness site, it says " The NESS L300 is not for people with > > peripheral nerve disease " . Guest guest
Would you please explain: How it could burn us (other than a malfunction, and us not sensing it)? How it could cause inflammation, and what kind of inflammation is being referred to? How 'increased' muscle contractions are a bad thing here? Guest guest
Gretchen, I just asked my PT this question yesterday. Can you try to explain to me the difference of why this is helpful for people with MS but contraindicated to us with Peripheral neuropathy. She thought it was because our damage is in our nerves directly and MS is stemming from the spinal cord. Also as another note, physical therapy was never recommended for me from any of my doctors and they felt what I did in my daily life was enough. Well, I have been doing PT for 3 weeks now and I cannot stress enough how positive it has been for me. My core is getting stronger and I was actually able to walk on the beach the other day with minimal assistance (Have not done that in years!) I even think my balance is improving. The exercises she gives me are simple and I am even doing them faster with not needing as much rest in between. I could kick myself for not doing this 20 years ago, but c'est la vie! Guest guest
Augold and Jackie, The burn would be on the skin, and yes, it is realted to sensory nerves and not feeling it, causing serious skin rupture, infection, inflamation of nerves and muscle. As for muscle contractions - people with CMT are subject to muscle contractions as part of the disease - why use a device that would make them worse? Guest guest
Thank you, does anyone on the group have them?? I still can't use the metal braces I got..to heavy and break out from the foam. Another 4,000 just bit the dust. Plus I take a size 1 and 1/2 W shoe and these are a five. Feel like I'm walking a shoe box!I can't tell you how much I hate them...I should have never excepted them...but my Ins doesn't pay for sp.made shoes What a waist...still in slippers!
